*Making up the Missed Ramadan Fasts*
بسم الله الرحمان الرحيم
If one who fall into the category of
paying back the missed Ramadan fast *(as explained above)*, delays making up a missed Ramadan fast and another Ramadan set in, then, the person have committed a big sin and will face double punishment:*(that's paying all the missed Ramadan fast and feeding the needy for each of the days)*. Yes. This is evident in the report narrated from Ibn ‘Abbas, Ibn ‘Umar and Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with them) who said concerning the one who has to make up a missed fast but does not do so until the next Ramadan comes: “He must make it up and feed one poor person for each day.” This fidyah is for delaying it. It is permissible to offer the food before making up the fast, at the same time, or afterwards.”
*How Much is Fidya for Ramadan 2025?*
The amount of Fidya donations is half a Saa of local staple food to be given to a needy person, which is approximately equivalent to one and a half kilograms of rice. Fidya can also be paid by cooking food and inviting deserving people to eat.
Fidya in Ramadan 2025 is somewhere 2K to 3K and even upto 4K per day in Nigeria (depending on one's location. It's near £3 or £4 per day. Fidya calculation for the whole month of Ramadan would amount to 90K or £120. This sum provides meals to a needy person for each missed fast.
Furthermore,
The one who missed more than one fast in the month of Ramadan with genuine reasons like old age, chronic sickness or lifetime sickness can set a day to give the fidya at ago. Yes. Even if the missed Ramadan fast is up to 30. 📚Shaykh Ibn `Uthaymin (may Allah have mercy on him) - in Fatawa As-Siyam (p. 111).
A WORD ON THE ETHIC OF EASE IN ISLAM
This allowance for people who have difficulty fasting to provide sufficient food for those in need is a sign of Islam’s toleration and ease. It does not burden those who are ill or traveling with fasting.
It is important to keep in mind that this provision of ease in Islam takes into consideration the different circumstances of people and does not burden them with unnecessary or overwhelming hardship. It is not, however, acceptable for anyone to use the phrase “Islam is a religion of ease” as a cover for neglecting obligations.
