*A CONSULTATIVE COUNCIL ENDORSES THE DEFENSIVE PLAN*
The intelligence of Madīnah passed on the news of the Mecca's army all the time. Thereupon the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) convened a military consultative meeting in which he exchanged the views about making a defensive plan. At the same time the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) informed them about a dream he had. He said: "I had a good dream; some cows had been butchered, which I didn't want to interpret it, for it would not happen to you, I also dreamt that my sword had notches and I put my hand into a strong armour." The cows were interpreted as the casualties of the Muslims. The notches were constructed as a man who would be killed from his relatives. The strong armour came to be interpreted as Madīnah.
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) proposed that his companions should station themselves in Madīnah and fortify themselves. If the polytheists stayed at their camp, this would be useless. If they attacked Madīnah, Muslims would fight them in the lanes and women would combat them from above the roofs. 'Abdullāh Ibn Ubayy Ibn Salul who attended the meeting agreed with the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) not because it was the appropriate military procedure but because he wanted to distance it himself from fight. But Allāh (Sub-haanahu wata'aala) willed to disgraced and unmask 'Abdullāh and his advocates in this hard situation and let Muslims recognise the enemies who associated with them within the Muslim community.
A group of the Companions who didn't take part in the battle of the Badr and others took the initiative and asked the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) so insistently to let them march to confront the enemy that of them said: "O Allāh's Prophet! We hoped for such a day and begged Allāh for it. Allāh made it come true and it was high time to move out for fight. Please let us go out to meet the enemy, or else they will think that we became cowards."
At the forefront of these Companions was Hamza Ibn 'Abdul-Mutallib who achieved many heroic acts in the battle of Badr. He said then to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him): "I swear by the One who revealed the Qur-ān to you that I won't have any food till I have fought them with this sword of mine."
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) relinquished his proposal modestly and happily out of consideration for his enthusiastic Companions. Thus Muslims agreed to get out of Madīnah and meet the enemy.
