*THE BATTLE OF UHUD continues*
*THE SECOND EXPEDITION OF BADR*
When Muslims subdued nomads and undercut their power, they started to confront their major enemy. The fixed appointment with Quraish has come and the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) had the right to confront Abu Sufyān and his people so that the worthiness party would survive. In Sha'aban, 4 A.H, 626 A.D, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) marched with an army of one thousand and five hundred fighters and ten horses to confront Abu Sufyān's army. The flag was carried by 'Ali Ibn Abu Tālib. 'Abdullāh Ibn Rawāhah was in charge of Madīnah. The Muslims' army reached Badr and settled therein waiting for the polytheists.
As for the army of Quraish, it consisted of two thousand combatants and fifty horses. They marched till they reached Marr Az-Zahrān (some miles away from Mecca) and stopped at Majannah. Abu Sufyān moved out of Mecca so concerned about the consequences of his fight against Muslims this time. Fear overcame him. As soon as he passed through Marr Az-Zahrān, he lost strength and drooped. To persuade his forces to return he managed to contrive a reason saying: "O Community of Quraish, it will be beneficial for you to enjoy a prosperous year in which you pasture your cattle and drink milk. But this year is lean. So I suggest that we should go back." It seemed that fear gripped the army as well. All fighters returned without opposition or dissent.
On their side Muslims stayed at Badr for eight days waiting for the enemy. They had some goods and sold them at big profits. Then the army returned to Madīnah and Muslim had the upper hand in all affairs. This expedition is known as Badr Al-Maw'id , the second Badr, and the Minor Badr.
*{To be continued In-sha-Allāh (If Allāh Wills)...}*
*"And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers."* (Qur-ān 51:55)
