*THE BATTLE OF AL-AHZĀB continues*
Anas reported: "When Allāh's Messenger went to the trench, he saw Immigrants and Supporters digging it in a cold morning. They had no slaves that could do this task for them. Noting their fatigue and hunger, he said: "O Allāh! There is no true life but the life of the Afterworld. So forgive Immigrants and Supporters." (Narrated by Al-Bukhāry) They replied: We are the people who pledged Muhammad (Blessings and Peace be upon him) to practice Jihad as long as we live."
Al-Bara Ibn 'Azib narrated: "On the day (of the battle) of Al-Ahzāb I saw the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) carrying earth, and the earth was covering the whiteness of his abdomen. He was saying: "Without You O Allāh! We would have got no guidance, given charity, or prayed. So bless us with tranquility and make firm our feet when we meet our enemies. Indeed (these) people have oppressed us but never shall we yield if they try to bring affliction upon us."
Muslims worked actively although they suffered starvation and fatigue. Anas narrated: "The people used to bring a handful of barley, and a meal was being prepared thereof by cooking it with a cooking material (oil, fat and butter having a change in colour and smell) to be presented to the people (i.e workers) who were hungry, and it used to stick to their throats and had a nasty smell." (Narrated by Al-Bukhāry)
Abu Talhah narrated: "We complained to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) of our hunger. So we had to tie stones to our bellies. And the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) also tied two stones to his belly out of severe hunger."
On this occasion many signs of prophethood occurred. Jābir noted that the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) was in a state of severe hunger. He went home and slaughtered the she-kid and ground some barley; then he came to the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) and asked him to come along with two or three men. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) invited all the people who were digging the trench to this meal. They were one thousand men. All of them ate that food to their satisfaction. Our earthenware pot was still bubbling (full of meal) as if it had not decreased, and our dough was still being baked as if nothing had been taken from it."
The sister of An-Nu'mān Ibn Bashir brought a handful of dried dates so that he and his father would eat them when digging the Trench. When she passed by the Prophet, he asked her to give him the dried dates. Then he spread them on a garment and called the people who were digging. All the people began to eat, while the dates were increasing. They became so satisfied while the dried dates were falling off the edges of the garment.

*"And keep reminding, because reminding benefits the believers."* (Qur-ān 51:55)
