*A Letter for You*
------------------بسم الله الرحمان الرجيم
Today is Friday. But did you know that in the sight of Allah, this day has another name? Our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him) taught us that this day is called Yawmul Mazid—which means the Day of Extra Increases.
Yes! This is the day when Allah (swt) gives extra blessings, extra mercy, and extra rewards. It is a special market day. But it is not a market for buying food or clothes. No. It is a market for shopping for your Hereafter—the life that will begin immediately the moment you are placed in your grave.
So today, as you go about your business, remember: you have a chance to buy something that will never spoil, never finish, and will light your way in the darkness of the grave.
My People,
Listen carefully. Whether the economy is hard or soft, there is something we must never ignore. Look at our houses. When something is spoiled in our house, we fix it. When something is needed for the smooth running of our home, we buy it. We work hard to maintain where we live, no matter the cost. We do this relentlessly.
So why is it that many times, the activities of propagation of our religion suffers neglect?
Even the Masjid—is left ignored? Why?
My people,
The smooth running of the activities of our religion is not the job of Angels. Allah did not design it that Angels should descend to fix a broken tap in our masjid, or replace a worn-out carpet, or pay the electricity bill or pay for logistics to ensure that the message of Allah (swt) and His Rasool get to people far or near.
*This responsibility is yours and mine.*
In fact, this is not just a good deed. It is a direct instruction from Allah (swt) in the glorious Qur’an. Allah (swt) says:
إِنَّمَا يَعْمُرُ مَسَٰجِدَ ٱللَّهِ مَنْ ءَامَنَ بِٱللَّهِ وَٱلْيَوْمِ ٱلْءَاخِرِ
"The mosques of Allāh are MAINTAINED by those who believe in Allāh and the Last Day..." 📚(Surah At-Taubah, 9:18)
Read that verse again. Allah (swt) did not say the Masjids are maintained by those who have a lot of money. HE said they are maintained by those who believe.
This is powerful.
It means our claim of Iman (faith) is directly connected to how we handle all the religious activities. If we say we believe in Allah and the Last Day, but we do nothing to maintain His House or support the spread of Allah's religion, then our words are empty.
My people, it is popularly said: “Action speaks louder than words.”
Today,
I remind myself and you: let us not hide under the cover of a "harsh economy" to abandon charity. Yes, the economy is hard. But remember, this worldly life is a test. And one of the greatest tests is to see who will still give.
Let us prepare to drop something reasonable—no matter how small—every single day inside the Fi Sabilillah box in the Masjid where we pray regularly. Especially today, on this blessed Friday, the Day of Extra Increases.
Do not let the devil deceive you by saying, “It is small - I don't have much, it doesn’t matter, because some people are already giving, nobody is seeing what they are doing with the money collected.” In the sight of Allah, anything you give out goes straight to your account of good deeds and a small deed done consistently is beloved than giving once in while because the benefits of been consistent in giving despite the harsh economy can bring you an extra increase that you will find waiting for you when you need it most.
