WHAT IF RAMAḌĀN IS THIRTY?

FAJR REMINDER: WHAT IF RAMAḌĀN IS THIRTY?

By: Umm Affān

Ramaḍān 30, 1447 (19-March-2026)

In the perfect Wisdom of Allāh, the crescent of Shawwāl was not sighted last night, and thus Ramaḍān continues today, completing this year’s Ramaḍān (i.e. Ramaḍān 1447) as thirty days. Abū Hurayrah (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whenever you sight the new moon (of the month of Ramaḍān) observe fast, and when you sight it (the new moon of Shawwāl) break it, and if the sky is cloudy for you, then observe fast for thirty days.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1081]

Given this clear guidance, one may wonder why there is any fuss at all. Surprisingly, there are “Muslims” who feel uneasy about this outcome, as they are eager to conclude Ramaḍān and return to their previous habits. Subḥānallāh! I even came across a statement from someone who claimed that regardless of whether the crescent of Shawwāl was sighted or not, he would not fast today. This is a deeply troubling stance, stemming from a dangerous place that contradicts true submission to Allāh.

We need to recognize that part of having Belief in Qadar (predestination) is to be pleased with and patient upon the obligations that Allāh has legislated for us. When Allāh commands the believers to fast, they respond with full submission—without hesitation or objection. Even if Ramaḍān were to extend more, they would remain steadfast in observing it. Indeed, Ramaḍān is filled with countless opportunities for good deeds and immense rewards, and the sincere believers continue striving to benefit from every moment of it without wavering.

It is quite puzzling that this noble and blessed month becomes burdensome for some. What exactly troubles them? Is it the temporary abstinence from food and drink? Or is it the way fasting distances a person from sins while encouraging an increase in righteous deeds? What truly lies behind this discomfort? Reflect for a moment—do you realize the virtue of fasting even a single extra day in Ramaḍān?

Let me bring you closer to its significance—just a glimpse. Abū Sa’id al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “Whoever fasts a day in the way of Allāh Almighty, by that day Allāh will move his face away from the Hellfire by a distance of seventy years.” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2840, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 1153] There are other Aḥadīth on this such as what was reported by ‘Uqbah Ibn Amir, that Allāh will distance him from Hell by a measure of one hundred years of travel.” [Sunan al-Nasā’ī 2254] Also, Abū Umāmah reported that, Allāh will make a trench between him and the Hellfire whose distance is like that between the heavens and the earth.” [Sunan At-Tirmidhī 1624]

So, what if you have been granted one more day in Ramaḍān—another opportunity to engage in acts of obedience such as Qiyām, Siyām, Ṣalāh, Adhkār, Tilāwah, and Ṣadaqah? O Allāh! We are grateful for this additional day and the opportunity to draw nearer to You.

I beseech Allāh to continually increase us in goodness, make acts of worship beloved to our hearts, grant us the ability to perform them sincerely, forgive our shortcomings, reward us abundantly, admit us into Jannah, and protect us from the Hellfire. Aameen.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD

*BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group. 'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it. Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of A...
