*Let’s continue on how this verse was revealed*👇🏻.                                               *4:58 An-Nisaa*

Verily! Allah commands that you should render back the trusts to those, to whom they are due; and that when you judge between men, you judge with justice. Verily, how excellent is the teaching which He (Allah) gives you! Truly, Allah is Ever All-Hearer, All-Seer.

In pre-Islamic times (that is, before اللَّهُ Subhana wa Ta'ala conferred Nubuw’wah, Prophethood, on Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam), the Arabs used to regard the sanctity of Kab’ah but in their own way. During the days of Hajj, the services of providing water to the pilgrims was entrusted to Abbas (radhiyallahu anhu), the uncle of the Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam. The custodial duty of keeping the keys to the House of Allah &, of opening & closing it during fixed days had been given to ‘Uthman ibn Talhah.

After the conquest of Makkah, when Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam took the keys of the door of Ka’bah from Uthman ibn Talhah, opened its door & entered Ka’bah, اللَّهُ Subhana wa Ta'ala revealed this ayah instructing His beloved Messenger to return the trust (in this case, the Key) to its rightful trustee: “Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due aиϑ when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing aиϑ Seeing.”
*(Surah An-Nisaa 4: 58)*

Let us first understand the historical background: “According to a personal statement of ‘Uthman ibn Talhah, the Ka’bah was opened every Monday & Thursday during the period of Jahilliyah & people would use the occasion to have the honour of entering the sacred House. Once before Hijrah, the Holy Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam came with some of his Companions in order to enter the Ka’bah. ‘Uthman ibn Talhah had not embraced Islam until that time. He stopped the Holy Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam from going in, displaying an attitude which was very rude.

Holy Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam showed great restraint, tolerated his harsh words, then said: ‘O ‘Uthman, a day will come when you would perhaps see this key to the Baytullah in my hands when I shall have the power & choice to give it to anyone I choose’. ‘Uthman ibn Talhah said: ‘If this happens, the Quraysh will then be all uprooted and disgraced’. He (sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam) said: ‘No, the Quraysh will then be all established & very honourable indeed’z Saying this, he ﷺ went into the Baytullah.

After that, says Talhah, when I did a little soul-searching, I became convinced that whatever he ﷺ has said is bound to happen. I made up my mind that I am going to embrace Islam then & there. But, my own people around me vehemently opposed the idea & everybody joined in to chide me on my decision. So, I was unable to convert to Islam.

When came the conquest of Makkah, the Holy Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam called for me & asked for the key to Baytullah, which I presented to him.’ So he ﷺ went into the Baytullah, offered his prayers there, & when he ﷺ came out, he returned the key to Talhah ( who was not yet a Muslim) saying:

‘Here, take it. Now this key will always remain with your family right through the Last Day. Anyone who will take this key from you will be a tyrant.’(By this he meant that nobody has the right to take back this key from Talhah). Rasulullah ﷺ also instructed him to use whatever money or things he may get in return for this service to Baytullah in accordance with the rules set by the Shari’ah of Islam. ‘Uthman ibn Talhah says: ‘When I, with the key in my hand, started walking off all delighted, Rasulullah ﷺ called me again, & said: “Remember ‘Uthman, did I not tell you something way back?.

Has it come to pass, or has it not?’ Now, I remembered what he ﷺ had said before Hijrah when he ﷺ had said: ‘A day will come when you will see this key in my hand’. I submitted: ‘Yes, there is no doubt about it. Your word has come true.’ Aиϑ that was the time when I recited the Kalimah & entered the fold of Islam’. ‘Mazhari, from Ibn Sa’d). Sayyidna ‘Umar ibn Al-Khattab (radhiyallaahu anhu) says: ‘That day, when the Holy Prophet sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam came out of the Baytullah, he was reciting, this very verse ……إِنَّ اللَّـهَ يَأْمُرُكُمْ أَن تُؤَدُّوا الْأَمَانَاتِ إِلَىٰ أَهْلِهَا I had never heard him recite this verse before this’.

Obviously, this verse was revealed to him inside the Ka’bah exactly at that time. Obeying the Divine command in the verse, Prophet Muhammad sal-lal-laahu-alaihi-wa-sallam called ‘Uthman ibn Talhah again & made him the trustee of the key. This was the background in which this verse was revealed. The key of the door of Ka’bah is still in the possession of the family of the original Key-Bearer, Uthman ibn Talhah (radhiyallaahu anhu).

Even the king of Saudi Arabia needs permission from this blessed family to have the key to enter Ka’bah. Subhanallah!. Another point we learn from this ayah is that apart from commanding us to fulfill our trusts, we are also instructed to judge between people with justice.  The ayah concludes by reminding us that Allah hears all that we say & sees all of our actions, & that nothing is hidden is from Him.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yawm athalaatha, 3rd day of Rabeeul Awwal 1447AH, Tuesday, 26th August 2025. *_THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF_*. BismilLah.  Islam encourages Muslims in general to stand out among people, readily distinguishable by their dress, appearance and behaviour, so that they will be a good example, worthy of the great message that they bring to humanity. According to the hadith narrated by the great Sahabi Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) told his Companions, when they were travelling to meet some brothers in faith: "You are going to visit your brothers, so repair your saddles and make sure that you are dressed well, so that you will stand out among people like an adornment, for ALLAH (SWT) does not love ugliness." Reported by Imam Abu Dawud, 4/83, in Kitab al-libas, bab ma ja'a fi isbal al-izar. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) considered an unkempt and careless appearance, and scruffy clothes and furnishings, to be...
