*فَمَنۡ حَآجَّكَ فِيۡهِ مِنۡۢ بَعۡدِ مَا جَآءَكَ مِنَ الۡعِلۡمِ فَقُلۡ تَعَالَوۡا نَدۡعُ اَبۡنَآءَنَا وَاَبۡنَآءَكُمۡ وَنِسَآءَنَا وَنِسَآءَكُمۡ وَاَنۡفُسَنَا وَاَنۡفُسَكُمۡ ثُمَّ نَبۡتَهِلۡ فَنَجۡعَل لَّعۡنَتَ اللّٰهِ عَلَى الۡكٰذِبِيۡنَ‏*

*(3:61) Tell whoever disputes with you on this matter after true knowledge has come to you: 'Come! Let us summon our sons and your sons, and our women and your women, and ourselves and yourselves, and then let us pray together and invoke the curse of Allah on those who lie.*

*اِنَّ هٰذَا لَهُوَ الۡقَصَصُ الۡحَـقُّ ​​ۚ وَمَا مِنۡ اِلٰهٍ اِلَّا اللّٰهُ​ؕ وَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ لَهُوَ الۡعَزِيۡزُ الۡحَكِيۡمُ‏*
*(3:62) This is the true story. There is no God but Allah, and assuredly Allah is All-Mighty, All-Wise.*

*فَاِنۡ تَوَلَّوۡا فَاِنَّ اللّٰهَ عَلِيۡمٌۢ بِالۡمُفۡسِدِيۡنَ*
*(3:63) And if they turn their backs, truly Allah knows those who cause mischief.*

_Allah narrates a dialogue between Prophet ﷺ and a delegation from Najran (Yemen)._
▪︎ The reason for the revelation of these ayaat in Surah Aal-Imran from the beginning until here was that a delegation from the Christians of Najran (Yemen) came to Madina to argue about ‘Eesa ‘alayhi salaam. ..... They claimed that he was divine and the son of Allah.
▪︎ Allah ﷻ sent these ayaat from the beginning until here to refute their claims
▪︎ The Prophet ﷺ had sent a message to the Christians of Najran that included three options:

🔹Pay jizyah [a levy on free non-Muslims under the Muslim rule]
🔹.Get ready for a war
▪︎ After mutual consultation, the Christians sent a delegation to the Prophet ﷺ. The delegation came and began talking about religious issues.

_*When they, in their effort to prove the divinity of Jesus, took their debate to the extremes of dispute that was when this ayah of Mubahalah was revealed.*_

*The Prophet ﷺ invited the Christians to join in the Mubahalah confrontation*  _(a form of resolving disputes by praying to Allah ﷻ)._

He ﷺ was instructed by Allah ﷻ to say, 
*“Come, let us call our sons and your sons, our women and your women, ourselves and yourselves, then supplicate earnestly [together] and invoke the curse of Allah upon the liars [among us].”*

Mubahalah means mutual prayer .... In the terminology of Islamic Shari’ah it refers to a particular form of resolving religious disputes.

▪︎ When the argumentations from both sides fail to resolve a religious issue, the parties jointly pray to Allah ﷻ to cast His curse on whichever of the two parties is false. _The curse of Allah means, “moving away from the Divine mercy.”...Moving away from the Divine mercy also means moving closer to the Divine wrath_
*so the meaning becomes, “Wrath be on the liar.”*
_Whoever is the liar shall face the evil consequences where the truth will become evident before the disbelievers as well._

*Such an invocation is called, “Mubahalah.”*
💫 Al-Bukhari recorded that Hudhayfah said,
_“Al-‘Aqib and As-Sayyid, two leaders from Najran, came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ seeking to invoke Allah for curses (against whoever is unjust among them), and one of them said to the other_

_*‘Let us not do that. By Allah, if he were truly a prophet and we invoke Allah for curses, we and our offspring shall never succeed afterwards.’*_.

_So they said, ‘We will give you what you asked and send a trusted man with us, just a trusted man.’_
*The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘Verily, I will send a trusted man with you, a truly trustworthy man.’*
_The Companions of the Messenger of Allah all felt eager to be that man._
*The Messenger ﷺ said, ‘O "Abu ‘Ubaydah ibn Al-Jarrah"! Stand up.’*
*When Abu `Ubaydah stood up, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, ‘This is the "trustee of this Ummah.’"”*
(What an honor!)
Allah says
*“Indeed, this is the true narration,”*
*“And there is no deity except Allah.”*
*“…if they turn away, then indeed – Allah is Knowing of the corrupters,”*.

*ANOTHER VERSION OF THE TAFSEER OF THESE VERSES* 👉🏻. When Islam began to spread there were some tribes which professed Christianity. After the expedition to Tabuk some Christian tribes were converted to Islam. Some Christian tribes chose not to change their faith, but they accepted the suzerainty of the Muslims and agreed to pay them an annual tribute. There was a large Christian community in Najran. In 631 C.E., The Holy Prophet invited them to accept Islam. In response, they challenged the Holy Prophet to a Mubahila.

The Mubahila was an ancient way of ascertaining the truth. In a religious contest, each of the disputing parties was required to take a solemn oath that they were right and true, and called on God to wreak His vengeance on them if they lied. It was believed that in such cases, the liar was visited by the wrath of God and was destroyed. The Holy Prophet accepted the challenge and asked the Christians of Najran to send a deputation to Madina. A deputation of the Christian priests headed by their chief Aqib accordingly arrived in Madina.
