Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Anfal:

*اِنَّمَا الْمُؤْمِنُونَ الَّذِينَ إِذَا ذُكِرَ اللَّهُ وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ*

_The believers are only those who, when Allah is mentioned, feel a fear in their hearts_

Ibn Abbas رضي الله عنه said _"None of Allah's remembrance enters the hearts of the hypocrites upon performing what He has ordained. They neither believe in any of Allah's Ayat nor trust (in Allah) nor  pray._

*وَجِلَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ*

_Their hearts become fearful_

The quality of a true believer is that when Allah ﷻ is mentioned, he feels a fear in his heart, and thus implements His orders and abstains from His prohibitions

Sufyan Ath Thawri رحمه الله commented _"A man might be thinking of committing injustice or a sin. But he abstains when he is told, *`Have Taqwa of Allah'*, and his heart becomes fearful."_

_

Allah ﷻ continues in the same ayah

*وَإِذَا تُلِيَتْ عَلَيْهِمْ ءَايَـتُهُ زَادَتْهُمْ إِيمَـناً*

_And when His Ayat are recited unto them, they increase their faith;_

*وَعَلَى رَبِّهِمْ يَتَوَكَّلُونَ*

_And they put their trust in their Lord._

[8:2]

Therefore, the believers hope in none except Allah, direct their dedication to Him alone, seek refuge with Him alone, invoke Him alone for their various needs and supplicate to Him alone. 

They know that whatever He ﷻ wills, occurs and that whatever He ﷻ does not will never occurs, that He ﷻ alone is the One Who has the decision in His kingdom, without partners; none can avert the decision of Allah ﷻ and He ﷻ is swift in reckoning. Hence the statement of Sa`id bin Jubayr, *_"Tawakkul of Allah is the essence of faith."_*

This Ayah, reminds us, that we need to continuously be heeding the words of Allah and have Taqwa, in order to gain Jannah and to avoid sharing characteristics with the Hypocrites.

The Ayah reminds us, that the hearts become fearful!

But we only hear, we do not listen and understand.

So in order to feel the full effect of the Qur'an, we must understand the message! And seek knowledge!

Because if we do not understand the Qur'an, how will the Ayaat change us? 

_

And this Ayah, gives the final reminder, that we must always put our hopes and fears in Allah ﷻ, the Creator, the Most Wise and the Sustainer! 

Not to put it in the creation, who often let us down and lead us away from Allah ﷻ.

May Allah ﷻ forgive us and protect us firm on our Deen.
