*EPISODE 6️⃣ - Hanging Of Amulets And Talismans*
➖ ➖ ➖
Among the prohibited shirk-related acts which many people have fallen into is the hanging of amulets and talismans [made] from bones, cowrie shells, and so forth. And these are termed _at-Tamāʾim_ (sing: Tamīmah; amulets, talismans).
And the Prophet (ﷺ) had said:
*_“Whoever hangs an amulet, may Allāh not fulfill his wishes, and whoever hangs a cowrie shell, may Allāh not grant him serenity, and whoever hangs an amulet has ascribed partners with Allāh.”_*
He also said:
*_“Verily, Ruqá (sing: Ruqyah; divine incantations), amulets, and love-charms are Shirk.”_*
And these ḥadīths encompass the amulets and talismans [made] from the Qurʾān and other than it; because the Messenger (ﷺ) did not make any exception, and because hanging amulets from the Qurʾān is a means to hanging other than it. So it is compulsory to prevent all [from being hung,] out of blocking the means to Shirk, actualizing Tawḥīd, and acting by the generality of the ḥadīths. With the exception of divine incantations, for indeed, the Messenger made an exception of the one that does not contain Shirk from it. He said:
*_“There is no harm in Ruqá (divine incantations), provided that it is not Shirk.”_*
And he performed Ruqyah on some of his companions. So there is no harm in Ruqá. They are from the legislative means, [provided that] they are from the noble Qurʾān, or from what is authentically reported from the Sunnah, or from clear words that do not contain Shirk or a prohibited statement.
