Allah ﷻ says in Surah Al-Imran
_And those who, when they have committed immorality or wronged themselves with evil, remember Allah and ask forgiveness for their sins._
[3:135]
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه said "I was told when this Ayah was revealed, Iblis cried."
In a Hadith reported in the 2 Sahihs
Abu Hurayrah رضي الله عنه narrates that the Prophet ﷺ said _“A servant committed a sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah the Exalted said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable. Then the servant returned to his sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable. Then the servant returned to his sin and he said: O Allah, forgive my sin! Allah said: My servant has committed a sin and he knows he has a Lord who forgives sins and holds him accountable, so do what you will for I have forgiven you.”_
[Sahih Al-Bukhari 7068, Sahih Muslim 2758]
The ayah continues..
*وَمَن يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ*
_And who can forgive sins except Allah?_
*وَلَمْ يُصِرُّواْ عَلَى مَا فَعَلُواْ وَهُمْ يَعْلَمُونَ*
_And do not persist in what they have done, while they know._
[3:135]
Meaning, they repent from their error, return to Allah ﷻ before death, do not insist on error, and if they err again, they repent from it again.
In a Hadith the Prophet ﷺ said _"The intelligent person is the one who keeps a check on himself and does actions that will benefit him after death; and the foolish person is the one who follows his desires and places false hope in Allah.”_
[At-Tirmidhi]
Meaning, He Sins and while Sinning he thinks that Allah ﷻ will forgive him so why not just go ahead and do more sins.
This is foolish to think anyone can outsmart the Lord of the Worlds.
Allah ﷻ will only forgive if you are sincere.
Anas ibn Malik رضي الله عنه reported: The Prophet ﷺ said:
_“All of the children of Adam are sinners, and the best sinners are those who repent.”_
[Sunan al-Tirmidhī 2499, Grade: Sahih]
May Allah ﷻ forgive our shortcomings and make us among the sincere.
*آمين*
