BBNAIJA. Entertainment or Spread of Fitnah?

*BBNAIJA*

*Entertainment or Spread of Fitnah?*

➖ ➖ ➖

A lot of us are familiar with the Reality TV show, Big Brother Naija. There's a craze whenever it's aired. It trends more than anything on social media, such that even those who do not watch the show come to know all that happens in it. People follow it devotedly as though it is of immense benefit to them.

For those who do not know, BBnaija is a show where all the contestants (both male and female) live together in an isolated house as "housemates" for a period, competing for a sum of money. In the said house, there is zero privacy, as there are cameras and microphones all over, 24/7.

In their desperate quest to win the ultimate prize, the housemates forget that virtues such as morality, dignity, and self-respect exist. With eyes fixed on the prize, they throw caution to the wind and display all kinds of disgusting and immoral habits with reckless abandon.

Obscene images and actions, vulgar words and unhealthy habits are exhibited to the world on full display in a bid to "entertain."

Ask yourself what exactly the motive is behind producing such a show. What benefit can come from providing entertainment to the youth through sinful activities?

Unfortunately, a lot of the youth, even among the Muslims find pleasure in this devilish and deviant show. They spend their time and money to watch the show and even idolize the participants and defend their words and actions, while forgetting (or maybe ignoring) the fact that they will be questioned about it on the Day of Resurrection.

We must abstain from anything that will corrupt our minds and destroy our values.

Allaah (ﷻ) says:

*“Indeed, those who like that immorality should be spread [or publicized] among those who have believed will have a painful punishment in this world and the Hereafter. And Allaah knows and you do not know.”*

(An-Nur 24:19)

Exposure to shows like BBnaija does nothing but erode one's morals and consume one's modesty little by little until there's nothing left. It makes us susceptible to performing the devilish acts displayed, and it amounts to wasting time, a commodity about which we will give account on the Day of Judgment.

Nigeria is not an Islamic state. So, it's no surprise that requests calling for the end of the show have been ignored. It becomes our responsibility as individuals and more so, believers, to desist from watching the show or it's likes and from supporting it in any way.

The believer must act in defense of what is right and oppose what is wrong.

The Prophet ﷺ said: _*“Whoever among you sees an evil action, let him change it with his hand [by taking action]; and if he cannot, then with his tongue [by speaking out]; and if he cannot, then with his heart [by feeling that it is wrong] – and that is the weakest of faith.”*_

(Muslim, 49)

Parents also have a part to play in this. You must put in effort to monitor your children and take appropriate and firm action when necessary.

May Allaah (ﷻ) save us from a fitnah whose consequences consume both the upright and the immoral in the society.

آمِيْن يَارَبَّ الْعَالَمِينْ

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yawm athalaatha, 3rd day of Rabeeul Awwal 1447AH, Tuesday, 26th August 2025. *_THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF_*. BismilLah.  Islam encourages Muslims in general to stand out among people, readily distinguishable by their dress, appearance and behaviour, so that they will be a good example, worthy of the great message that they bring to humanity. According to the hadith narrated by the great Sahabi Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) told his Companions, when they were travelling to meet some brothers in faith: "You are going to visit your brothers, so repair your saddles and make sure that you are dressed well, so that you will stand out among people like an adornment, for ALLAH (SWT) does not love ugliness." Reported by Imam Abu Dawud, 4/83, in Kitab al-libas, bab ma ja'a fi isbal al-izar. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) considered an unkempt and careless appearance, and scruffy clothes and furnishings, to be...
