*EPISODE 7️⃣ - Celebrating Birthdays*
➖ ➖ ➖
Among the prohibited innovated practices is celebrating birthdays; whether it is the birthday of the Prophet or other than him. Because the Messenger did not do it, nor his rightly guided caliphs, nor the rest of the companions, (may Allāh be pleased with them); nor those who followed them upon goodness in the preferred three generations. It only emerged in the fourth generation and afterwards, through the Faṭimids and other than them from the Shīʿah, then some of the people of Sunnah engaged in it, out of ignorance regarding the legislative rulings and blindly following those that engaged in it among the people of innovations.
So, what is compulsory is to be cautious of that, because it is from the prohibited innovations which is included in his statement:
*_“Beware of newly invented matters [in the religion], for indeed, every newly invented matter is an innovation, and every innovation is misguidance.”_*
And his statement:
*_“Whoever introduces into this affair of ours [i.e Islām], what is not from it, it shall be rejected.”_*
[Agreed Upon, from the ḥadīth of ʿĀʾishah, (may Allāh be pleased with her)]
And his statement:
*_“Whoever does a deed which we have not ordered, it shall be rejected.”_*
[Reported by Muslim in his Ṣaḥīḥ]
And his statement in his Khuṭbahs:
*_“To proceed: Verily, the best speech is the book of Allāh, and the best guidance is the guidance of Muḥammad, and the most evil affairs are the newly invented matters [in the religion], and every innovation is misguidance.”_*
[Reported by Muslim in his Ṣaḥīḥ on the authority of Jābir bn ʿAbdillāh, (may Allāh be pleased with them)]
And the ḥādīths in this regard are many.
Likewise, because celebrating birthdays is among the means to extremism and Shirk.
So, what is compulsory is to be cautious of and warn against them; and to mutually admonish one another with steadfastness upon the Sunnah and abandoning what opposes it.
And it is Allāh that we ask to guide us, you, and the rest of the Muslims to what contains His pleasure, and to bestow upon us all understanding of His religion and firmness upon it, and to safeguard us and all the Muslims from misguiding tribulations and the whisperings of Shayṭān. Verily, He is the One capable of that.
Was-Salām ʿalaykumwa raḥmatullāh wa barakātuh.
