*DU‘Ā, THE ESSENCE OF WORSHIP*

*EPISODE 2️⃣: Etiquette of making du'a*

➖➖➖

Below are the etiquette of making du‘ā:

1️⃣ *Perform wudu*

Performing wudu is a way of purifying yourself and getting into the correct mindset for speaking to Allaah.

The Prophet (ﷺ), after the battle of Hunain, called for water, performed wudu, then raised his hands and said: _*‘O Allaah! Forgive Ubaid Abi Amir!’*_

(Bukhari 6383}

2️⃣ *Sincerity towards Allaah Alone in making du‘ā.*

Du‘ā is worship, as the Prophet (ﷺ)  said, so sincerity (ikhlas) is a condition of its being accepted.

3️⃣ *Ask of Allaah by His most beautiful names*.

Allaah says:

*"وَلِلَّهِ ٱلْأَسْمَآءُ ٱلْحُسْنَىٰ فَٱدْعُوهُ بِهَا…"*

*“And (all) the Most Beautiful Names belong to Allaah, so call on Him by them...”* [al-A’raf 7:180]

4️⃣ *Praise Allaah as He deserves before calling upon Him.*

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ)  said, _*“...When you have prayed and are sitting, praise Allaah as He deserves to be praised, and send blessings upon me, then call upon Him.”*_ ln another version (3477): _*“When one of you prays, let him start with praise of Allaah, then let him send blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ) , then let him ask whatever he likes after that.”*_ (Sahih al-Tirmidhi, 2765, 2767)

5⃣ *Send blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ)*

The Prophet (ﷺ)  said: _*“Every du‘ā is kept back until you send blessings upon the Prophet (ﷺ) .”*_ (Classed as saheeh by al-Albani in Sahih al-Jami’, 4399.)

6⃣ *Face towards the qiblah.*

On the day of Badr, the Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ)  was overwhelmed by the numbers of the Mushrikeen. Then he (ﷺ)  turned to face the qiblah, and stretched forth his hands and started to cry out to his Lord praying. He kept on crying out to his Lord, stretching forth his hands, facing towards the qiblah, until his cloak fell from his shoulders…

(Muslim 1763)

*Al-Nawawi (رحمه الله)* said in *Sharh Muslim* : _This shows that it is mustahabb to face towards the qiblah when making du‘ā, and to raise the hands._

7⃣*Raising the hands.*

The Messenger of Allaah (ﷺ)  said: "*_When you ask of Allaah, ask of Him with the palms of your hands, not with the backs of them._*"

(Grade : Sahih, Sahih Abi Dawud, 1318.)

Shaykh Ibn ‘Uthaymin (رحمه الله) explained in al-Sharh al-Mumti’ (4/25) that they should be held together, not apart.

8⃣ *Having faith that Allaah will respond*

And focusing with proper presence of mind, because the Prophet (ﷺ)  said: _*“Call upon Allaah while you are certain of a response, and remember that Allaah will not answer a du‘ā that comes from a negligent and heedless heart.”*_

(Al-Tirmidhi, 3479.)

9⃣*Being firm in his du‘ā*

The Prophet (ﷺ)  said: _*“No one of you should say, ‘O Allaah, forgive me if You wish, O Allaah, have mercy on me if You wish’; he should be firm in his asking, for Allaah cannot be compelled.”*_

(Al-Bukhari, 6339)

🔟 *Saying du‘ā silently and not out loud.*

Allaah praised His slave Zakariyya (رحمه الله) by saying

*"إِذْ نَادَىٰ رَبَّهُۥ نِدَآءً خَفِيًّا"*

“When he called to his Lord (Allaah) a call in secret.” [Maryam 19:3]

O Allaah, help us remember You, to be grateful to You, and to worship You in an excellent manner.

*آمِيْن*

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. Source: Ṣaḥīḥ "Muslim 2699. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yawm athalaatha, 3rd day of Rabeeul Awwal 1447AH, Tuesday, 26th August 2025. *_THE MUSLIM WOMAN AND HER OWN SELF_*. BismilLah.  Islam encourages Muslims in general to stand out among people, readily distinguishable by their dress, appearance and behaviour, so that they will be a good example, worthy of the great message that they bring to humanity. According to the hadith narrated by the great Sahabi Ibn al-Hanzaliyyah, the Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam ) told his Companions, when they were travelling to meet some brothers in faith: "You are going to visit your brothers, so repair your saddles and make sure that you are dressed well, so that you will stand out among people like an adornment, for ALLAH (SWT) does not love ugliness." Reported by Imam Abu Dawud, 4/83, in Kitab al-libas, bab ma ja'a fi isbal al-izar. The Prophet (sallallahu alaihi wasallam) considered an unkempt and careless appearance, and scruffy clothes and furnishings, to be...
