*ALLĀH'S PROMISE TO THE ONE WHO LEAVE SOMETHING FOR HIS SAKE*
*O believers! Indeed, the polytheists are impure. So let them not come near Al-Masjidul-Harām. If you fear poverty, ALLĀH will soon enrich you out of HIS bounty, if HE so wills, for ALLĀH is All-Knowing, Most Wise.*
ALLĀH commands HIS believing servants, who are pure in religion and person, to expel the idolators who are filthy in the religious sense, from Al-Masjid Al-Haram.
After the revelation of this Ayah, idolators were no longer allowed to go near the Masjid.
This Ayah was revealed in the ninth year of Hijrah. The Messenger of ALLĀH sent Ali in the company of Abu Bakr that year to publicize to the idolators that no Mushrik will be allowed to perform Hajj after that year, nor a naked person allowed to perform Tawaf around the House.
ALLĀH completed this decree, made it a legislative ruling, as well as, a fact of reality.
*{Tafsir Ibn Kathīr}*
*"If you"* O Muslims *"fear poverty"* that is, you fear need and want as a result of preventing the polytheists from coming near the Sacred Mosque, because this would cut off a means of worldly gains and the trade between you and them
*"ALLĀH will soon enrich you out of HIS bounty"*, for HIS bounty is not limited to one type or one place; rather no door closes but many others open. ALLAH’s bounty is vast and HIS generosity is immense, especially for the one who gives up something for HIS sake, for ALLĀH is the most generous of those who show generosity. ALLĀH indeed fulfilled HIS promise, for HE enriched the Muslims out of HIS bounty and granted them abundant provision, to the extent that they became the richest of people and the greatest of rulers.
*"if HE so wills"* that is, this is conditional upon HIS will, because being enriched in this world is not necessarily one of the outcomes of faith and it does not indicate that ALLĀH loves a person. Hence ALLĀH connected this matter to HIS will, for ALLĀH may give worldly gain to one whom HE loves and one whom HE does not love, but HE does not grant faith and religious commitment except to one whom HE loves.
*"for ALLĀH is All-Knowing, Most Wise"* that is, HIS knowledge is immense and HE knows for whom richness is appropriate and for whom it is not appropriate, and HE puts things in the right place.
