_Allah ﷻ reminds the  of what their forefathers had done._*Allah ﷻ had chosen one day of the week for the Children of Israel to do nothing other than worshiping Him.*
▪ The Children of Israel  however breached the sanctity of this day (Sabbath).

A small valley of the fishermen whose main source of livelihood was fishing would place nets, ropes and artificial pools of water the night before the Sabbath. On Saturday, when they were pretending to be busy in their worship, the fish would come and get caught in the ropes and nets.

The fishermen would collect the fish after the Sabbath ended.
▪ _They thought they were deceiving Allah ﷻbut who can deceive the Creator?_
▪ The Sabbath day was a test for them. Allah had planned that fish would come in abundance. *As a punishment for what they had done, Allah ﷻ changed them from humans into monkeys.*
▪ When this incident happened their nation was split into three groups.
*Group One:* Those who caught the fish
*Group Two:* Those who stopped them and
*Group Three:* Those who said: Why do you stop them? They are not going to listen.

*When Allah’s punishment descended both group one and three were punished while group two was saved. Why?*
*It is because they stopped their people from committing the wrong. They acted upon ‘forbid the evil’.*
▪  Why did they stop them when group one was unwilling to listen?
*“In order to be free from guilt before your Lord.”(7: 164)*
_This tells us when we see a wrong act we must step up and stop it by our hands or tongues. If we don’t and transgression continues, then we too will taste the punishment.

*What is meant by ‘Be you monkeys’?*
 Tradition narrates that they looked like monkeys on the surface but had the intellect of humans.
*Ibn ‘Abbas said, “‘Be you monkeys…’ means that Allah ﷻ changed their bodies into those of monkeys and swine.*
*The young people turned into monkeys while the old people turned into swine.”*
*people were turned into howling monkeys with tails, after being men and women.”*
▪ _The Monkeys and Swine that Exist today are not the Descendants of those that were transformed.

*“Those who violated the sanctity of the Sabbath were turned into monkeys, then they perished without offspring.”*
*They only lived on the earth for three days, for no transformed person ever lives more than three days. They did not eat, drink or have offspring.*
_On the other hand, Allah created the monkeys, swine and the rest of the creation in the six days (of creation) that He mentioned in His Book.”_
*“So We made this punishment an example"*

Example for those who lived during their time as well as a reminder for those to come
*“And a lesson for the Muttaqeen.”*
Those who have taqwa should be aware of their evil behavior, so that what occurred to this village does not befall them as well.
_Messenger of Allah ﷺ said,_
*“Do not commit what the Jews committed, breaching what Allah has forbidden, by resorting to the lowest types of deceit.”* (hasan)

*Let's continue on these verses👇*.                         [2:67] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"وَ اِذۡ قَالَ مُوۡسٰی لِقَوۡمِہٖۤ  اِنَّ اللّٰہَ یَاۡمُرُکُمۡ اَنۡ تَذۡبَحُوۡا بَقَرَۃً ؕ قَالُوۡۤا اَتَتَّخِذُنَا ہُزُوًا ؕ قَالَ اَعُوۡذُ بِاللّٰہِ اَنۡ اَکُوۡنَ مِنَ  الۡجٰہِلِیۡنَ ﴿۶۷﴾

And (also recall) when Musa (Moses) said to his people: ‘Verily, Allah enjoins you to sacrifice a cow.’ They said: ‘Do you make fools of us?’ Musa (Moses) said: ‘I seek the protection of Allah (against) becoming one of the ignorant.’

  *[2:69] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة*
"قَالُوا ادۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّکَ یُبَیِّنۡ لَّنَا مَا لَوۡنُہَا ؕ قَالَ  اِنَّہٗ یَقُوۡلُ  اِنَّہَا بَقَرَۃٌ صَفۡرَآءُ ۙ فَاقِعٌ لَّوۡنُہَا تَسُرُّ النّٰظِرِیۡنَ ﴿۶۹﴾
They (again) said: ‘Pray to your Lord for us that He may specify what her colour should be.’ Musa (Moses) said: ‘He says the cow should be yellow, rich in tone, (so attractive that) it pleases the viewers.’.                                *[2:70] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة*
"قَالُوا ادۡعُ لَنَا رَبَّکَ یُبَیِّنۡ لَّنَا مَا ہِیَ ۙ اِنَّ الۡبَقَرَ تَشٰبَہَ عَلَیۡنَا ؕ وَ  اِنَّاۤ اِنۡ شَآءَ  اللّٰہُ  لَمُہۡتَدُوۡنَ ﴿۷۰﴾

(This time) they said: ‘Pray for us to your Lord that He may make clear to us what exact type of cow it is (because) the cow has become doubtful to us, and if Allah so wills, we shall indeed be guided aright.’

*[71] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة*
"قَالَ اِنَّہٗ یَقُوۡلُ  اِنَّہَا بَقَرَۃٌ لَّا ذَلُوۡلٌ تُثِیۡرُ الۡاَرۡضَ وَ لَا تَسۡقِی الۡحَرۡثَ ۚ مُسَلَّمَۃٌ لَّا شِیَۃَ فِیۡہَا ؕ قَالُوا الۡـٰٔنَ جِئۡتَ بِالۡحَقِّ ؕ فَذَبَحُوۡہَا وَ مَا کَادُوۡا یَفۡعَلُوۡنَ ﴿٪۷۱﴾

(Musa [Moses] said:) Allah has ordained: ‘(That is not any inferior cow. Instead) it is certainly (a superior) cow, which has been employed neither for ploughing nor for watering the field, a cow in sound health, without any blemish.’ They said: ‘Now you (have) brought the truth.’ So they sacrificed it, though they did not look like doing it.

*[2:72] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة*
"وَ اِذۡ قَتَلۡتُمۡ نَفۡسًا فَادّٰرَءۡتُمۡ فِیۡہَا ؕ وَ اللّٰہُ مُخۡرِجٌ مَّا کُنۡتُمۡ تَکۡتُمُوۡنَ ﴿ۚ۷۲﴾

And (recall), when you killed a man, then started disputing amongst yourselves (for its blame), and Allah was to unveil that event which you were concealing.                                         *[2:73] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة*
"فَقُلۡنَا اضۡرِبُوۡہُ بِبَعۡضِہَا ؕ کَذٰلِکَ یُحۡیِ اللّٰہُ  الۡمَوۡتٰی ۙ وَ یُرِیۡکُمۡ اٰیٰتِہٖ لَعَلَّکُمۡ تَعۡقِلُوۡنَ ﴿۷۳﴾

Then We commanded: ‘Strike this (dead body) with a piece of this (cow).’ That is how Allah restores the dead to life, (or will give life to the dead on the Day of Resurrection,) and He shows you His signs so that you may apply your knowledge and understanding.
