[2:7] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"خَتَمَ اللّٰہُ عَلٰی قُلُوۡبِہِمۡ وَ عَلٰی سَمۡعِہِمۡ ؕ  وَ عَلٰۤی اَبۡصَارِہِمۡ غِشَاوَۃٌ ۫ وَّ لَہُمۡ عَذَابٌ عَظِیۡمٌ ٪﴿۷﴾

Allah (as a result of their own choice) has set a seal on their hearts and their ears, and there is a blindfold (set) over their eyes. And for them there is a severe torment.

*Kafaroo [كَفَرُواْ]* means to refuse or reject.

*kafir means a person to whom everything is hidden*
Out of his genuine concern for his people, the Prophet ﷺ ardently desired guidance for them.
▪ The ayah addresses the Prophet ﷺ that no matter what you do they will not believe whether you warn them or not.
_The famous Pakistani poet Allama Muhammad Iqbal symbolizes Nabuwat (Prophethood) with Ummomat._
_Umm means ‘Mother’ ummomat is motherhood.

_*A Prophet cares about his Ummah like a mother worries about her children.*_

Muhammad ﷺ was the prophet for all mankind.
Calling people towards guidance requires love and affection such that people are attracted by your behavior.
_*So, Allah told the Prophet ﷺ to not feel sorry for the people who do not heed.*_
It is not his fault and there will be no blame on him. It is their bad luck that they didn’t pay attention.
*“Your duty is only to convey (the Message) and on Us is the reckoning.” (13: 40)*
● Allah informed him that none would believe except for those whom He decreed
● and none would stray away except those for whom Allah  has decreed so.

The second ayah means, Shaytan controlled them when they disobeyed the Messenger ﷺ.
Therefore, Allah sealed their hearts, their hearing and their sight.
They could neither see the guidance nor hear or comprehend it.
*خَتَمَ اللَّهُ عَلَى قُلُوبِهِمْ*
*“Allah has set a seal on their hearts,”* this occurs when sin resides in the heart and surrounds it from all sides, and this submersion of the heart in sin constitutes a stamp, meaning a seal. 
*وَعَلَى سَمْعِهِمْ وَعَلَى أَبْصَـرِهِمْ غِشَـوَةٌ*
*Samm is used for ears, absar is for vision/sight and ghishawatun means veil*

*عَذَابٌ عظِيمٌ*

*Aadabun is a mental as well as a physical punishment while  aatheemun denotes the greatness of that punishment.*

Whenever, the word Adeem is used in the Qur’an, it indicates the size and severity.

"وَ مِنَ النَّاسِ مَنۡ یَّقُوۡلُ اٰمَنَّا بِاللّٰہِ وَ بِالۡیَوۡمِ الۡاٰخِرِ وَ مَا ہُمۡ بِمُؤۡمِنِیۡنَ ۘ﴿۸﴾

And amongst people there are (also) some who say: ‘We believe in Allah and the Last Day,’ whereas they are not (at all) believers.

[2:9] Al-Baqarah-الْبَقَرَة
"یُخٰدِعُوۡنَ اللّٰہَ وَ الَّذِیۡنَ اٰمَنُوۡا ۚ وَ مَا یَخۡدَعُوۡنَ  اِلَّاۤ  اَنۡفُسَہُمۡ وَ مَا یَشۡعُرُوۡنَ ؕ﴿۹﴾

They seek to deceive Allah (i.e., the Messenger) and the believers, but (in fact) they deceive only themselves and they are not aware of it.* [* Here a mudaf mahdhuf (an omitted and inherent co-related noun) is referred to which is Rasul. The words yukhadi‘un Allah ‘they seek to deceive Allah’ denote yukhadi‘un Rasul-Allah ‘they seek to deceive the Messenger of Allah’. Most of the leading authorities of tafsir have drawn the same meaning. See: Tafsir al-Qurtubi, al-Baydawi, al-Baghawi, al-Nafasi, al-Kashshaf, al-Mazhari, Zad al-Masir, al-Khazin, etc.]

_Nifaq means to show conformity or agreement and to conceal evil._

*🔹. nifaq in the creed* that causes its people to reside in Hell for eternity,
*🔹. and nifaq in deed,* which is one of the major sins
About the hypocrites Ibn Jurayj said, 
●“His actual deeds are different from what he publicizes,
● what he conceals is different from what he utters,
● his entrance and presence are not the same as his exit and absence.

The revelations of the Revelation of the hypocrites were revealed in Madina, this is because there were no hypocrites in Makkah
Messenger of Allah ﷺ migrated to Madinah, where the Ansar from the tribes of *Aws and Khazraj resided*
Three Jewish tribes resided in Madinah,
*Banu Qaynuqa`-allies of Al-Khazraj*
*Banu An-Nadir and Banu Qurayzah-allies of the Aws.*
● Many members of the Aws and Khazraj tribes embraced Islam.
●  However, only a few Jews embraced Islam,
During the early stage in Madina, there weren’t any hypocrites because the Muslims were not strong enough to be feared yet.

Abdullah bin Ubayy bin Salul  was the master of both tribes – Aws and Khazraj.
👉 _They were about to appoint him their king when the Message reached Madina, and many in Madina embraced Islam.
_*Ibn Salul’s heart was filled with hatred against Islam and its people.*
When the battle of Badr took place he pretended to be a Muslim, along with many of those who were just like him, as well as many among the People of the Book.
*It was then that hypocrisy began in Madina and among the surrounding nomad tribes.*
Allah subhanahu wa ta’ala revealed the characteristics of the hypocrites, so that the believers would not be deceived by their outer appearance, thus saving the believers from a great evil.
