Evidence from the Book of Allāh ﷻ

*Evidence from the Book of Allāh ﷻ*

Rabī narrates: We were with Imām Shāfiīؒ one day, when an old man dressed in a woolen garment came to us with a walking-stick in his hand. Imām Shāfiīؒ stood up, neatened his clothing and after greeting the old man, sat down again. The Imām then continued gazing at him respectfully. The old man then said, "May I ask a question?"

Imām Shāfiīؒ replied, "Yes, you may."

The old man asked, "*What is the ḥujjah (proof) in the religion of Allāh ﷻ?*"

Imām Shāfiīؒ replied, "*The Book of Allāh ﷻ*."

The old man then asked, "*And what else?*"

Imām Shāfiīؒ answered, "*The Sunnah of Nabī ﷺ*."

The old man continued, "*What else?*"

Imām Shāfiīؒ replied, "*The consensus of the Ummah*."

The old man enquired, "*What is your proof for saying 'consensus of the Ummah'?*"

Imām Shāfiīؒ pondered for a while and the old man said, "I will give you three days' grace. You either produce the evidence from the *Book of Allāh ﷻ* or else you should repent to *Allāh ﷻ*."

Imām Shāfiīؒ's face changed colour and he then left us. He returned on the third day, between Zuhr and 'Aṣr Ṣalāh. His face, hands and legs were swollen and he was visibly ill. He sat down, and after a few moments, the old man arrived. He greeted, sat down and then said, "Did you find the answer to my question?"

Imām Shāfiīؒ replied, "Yes,"

"*And whoever opposes the Rasūl ﷺ after the guidance has been made clear to him, and follows a path other than that of the believers, We will keep him on the path he has chosen, and burn him in Hell. And what an evil destination.*" (*Sūrah An-Nisā', 115*)

*Allāh ﷻ* would certainly not burn a person in Hell for opposing the believers unless it was compulsory to follow them."

The old man exclaimed, "*You have spoken the truth.*" He then stood up and left.

*Imām Shāfiīؒ* then said to those around him, "I read the Qur'an thrice daily for the last three days until I found this verse."

____________

The *Imāmsؒ* of fiqh invariably based their rulings upon solid evidence obtained from the authentic sources of *Islām*. May *Allāh ﷻ* reward them for sacrificing their health and time in order to search for answers to the intricate matters of faith.

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

GIVE CHARITY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Ath-thalaatha. 28th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Tuesday 7th May 2024). *_GIVE CHARITY FOR YOUR OWN GOOD_*. Aameen.  Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: The Prophet (SallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "Charity is obligatory everyday on every joint of a human being.* If one helps a person in matters concerning his riding animal by helping him to ride on it or by lifting his luggage on to it, all these will be regarded as charity. A good word, and every step one takes to offer the compulsory congregational prayer is regarded as charity; and guiding somebody on the road is regarded as charity." [Sahih Al-Bukhari, 4/2891]. To show gratitude to ALLAH for keeping your body safe and sound, you should give in charity or do charitable deeds. Narrated Abu Hurairah [radhi-yAllahu 'anhu]: ALLAH'S Messenger (sallallahuAlaihiWasallam) said, "The strong is not the one who overcomes the people by his strength, but the strong is the one w...

IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING KNOWLEDGE An obligation upon every Muslim

﷽ ➖➖➖ *IMPORTANCE OF SEEKING KNOWLEDGE* ➖➖➖ *An obligation upon every Muslim* ➖➖➖  Allah ﷻ says  *وَعَلَّمَ ءَادَمَ الأَسْمَآءَ كُلَّهَا* _And He taught Adam all the names of everything_ Meaning, the names that people use, such as human, animal, sky, earth, land, sea, horse, donkey, and so forth, including the names of the other species" *ثُمَّ عَرَضَهُمْ عَلَى الْمَلَـئِكَةِ* _Then He showed them to the angels_ Meaning, the creations.
