*THE BATTLE OF BANU LAHYĀN*
We shouldn't forget that Banu Lahyān betrayed ten members of the Prophet's Companions at Ar- Raji' and caused their murder. As their dwellings were close to the borders of Mecca and military conflicts were happening between the Muslims and Quraish and desert nomads, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) found it dangerous to penetrate deeply into an area near the greatest enemy. When the confederates disunited and yielded to the current situations, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) found it a good opportunity to take revenge on Banu Lahyān for their role in the murder of his Companions at Ar-Raji'. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) advanced towards them, in Rabī'ul-Awwal or Jumādā al-Ūlā, 6 A.H, with a company of two hundred fighters of his Companions. He ordered Ibn Umm Makhtoum to take charge of Madīnah. In the beginning he pretended to be heading for Ash-Shām. Then he marched quickly and reached the valley of Ghurān (between Amaji and 'Usfān) where his Companions were killed. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) pleaded Allāh to bestow mercy upon them and wished then well. As soon as Banu Lahyān heard his words, they ran away through the mountains. Reaching their dwellings, they found none of them. They camped at their ground for two days and the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) dispatched companies to other positions but didn't find them. Then the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) led the army towards 'Usfān and sent ten cavalrymen to Kurā' Al-Ghamim to intimidate Quraish. Then they returned to Madīnah. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) spent fourteen years outside Madīnah.

*EXPEDITIONS AND COMPANIES*
The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) continued despatching expeditions and companies. Here are some examples:
1. The company of 'Ukkāshah Ibn Mihsan that marched towards Al-Ghamr in Rabī'ul-Awwal or Rabī'uth-Thāni 6, A. H. He commanded forty fighters who reached Al-Ghamr. But the enemy have turned tail. In this expedition Muslims got two hundred camels as booty and brought them to Madīnah.
2. The expedition of Muhammad Ibn Maslamah to Dhul-Qassah in Rabī'ul-Awwal, 6 A.H. Ibn Maslamah marched along with ten fighters towards Dhul-Qassah near the dwellings of Banu Tha'alaba. The enemy (were one hundred fighters) waited for the company in ambush. When they slept, they attacked and killed them except for Ibn Maslamah who escaped from them with his wounds.
3. The company of Abu 'Ubaidah Ibnul-Jarrāh to Dhul-Qassah in Rabī'uth-Thāni, 6 A.H. The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) dispatched this company in the wake of the murder of the members of the company of Muhammad Ibn Maslamah. Abu 'Ubaidah marched with forty fighters towards this area and walked on that night on foot. They overtook Banu Tha'alaba in the morning and assaulted them. But they escaped through the mountains. Muslims captured only a man who embraced Islam later. Muslims got cattle and sheep as booty.
4. The company of Zaid Ibn Hārithah to Al-Jamoum (a well belonging to Banu Sulaim, in Marr Az-Zahrān) in Rabī'uth-Thāni. On their way they met a woman of Muzainah called Halīma who guided them to a district of Banu Sulaim. They attacked this district and got cattle and sheep and captured some people. When they reached Madīnah, the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) manumitted Halīma and married her to one of the Muslims.
5. The company of Zaid to Al-'Is in Jumādā al-Ūlā, 6 A.H. It consisted of one hundred and seventy cavalrymen. They captured Property in a caravan belonging to Quraish which was under the command of Abu Al-Ass who ran away and asked Zainab to get him a pledge of protection and ask the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) to return the property of the caravan. She did so and the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) advised people to give back the property willingly. They returned all the items that were in this caravan. Then Abul-'Ass returned to Mecca and discharged the deposits to their recipients. After that he embraced Islam and immigrated to Madīnah.
6. The expedition of Zaid to At-Tarif or At-Tariq in Jumādā ath-Thānī, 6 A.H. He commanded fifteen fighters and headed for Banu Tha'alaba. But the nomads escaped as they expected that the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) would come to fight them. Muslims got twenty camels as booty and returned to Madīnah after four days.
7. The company of Zaid to Wadil-Qurā in Rajab, 6 A.H. He commanded twelve fighters and marched towards Wadil-Qurā to explore any movements of the enemy. The inhabitants of Wadil-Qurā assaulted them and killed nine fighters of this expedition. The other three fighters escaped, including Zaid Ibn Hārithah.
8. The company of Khabt. It is said that this expedition set out in Rajab, 8 A.H, but the context affirmed that it occurred before Al-Hudaibiyya. Jābir said: "The Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) sent us on an expedition of three hundred cavalrymen under the command of Abu 'Ubaidah to track a caravan of Quraish. We were struck with so severe hunger that we ate the Khabt (i.e the leaves of the Salam, a thorny desert tree), and because of that, the company was known as the army of Khabt. There was a man among us who slaughtered three camels, then another three camels and then other three camels till Abu'Ubaidah forbade him from this. Suddenly the sea threw out a dead fish the like of which we had never seen, and it was a sperm whale. We are of it for half a month. Abu 'Ubaidah took (and fixed) one of its bones and a rider passed underneath it (without touching). Jābir added: Abu 'Ubaidah said to us: "Eat of that fish." When we arrived in Madīnah, we informed the Prophet (Blessings and Peace be upon him) about that, and he said, "Eat, for it is food Allāh has brought to you, and feed us if you have some of it." So some of them gave him a piece of that fish and he ate it." I said that the context of this company indicates that it was dispatched before Al-Hudaibiyya because Muslims didn't attack any caravan of Quraish after it.
