FAJR REMINDER: THE LEVELS OF JANNAH

In yesterday’s FAJR REMINDER, I highlighted that Al-Firdaws is the highest level of Jannah. The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “...so if you ask Allāh for anything, ask Him for the Firdaws, for it is the last part of Paradise and the highest part of Paradise, and at its top there is the Throne of Beneficent.” [Ṣaḥiḥ al-Bukhārī 7423]
This beautiful teaching from the Prophet (ﷺ) is both guidance and motivation. It shows us that attaining Al-Firdaws begins with sincere supplication—constantly asking Allāh for it. When Allāh accepts such a supplication, He facilitates for a person the righteous deeds that will lead them to that noble Maqām (position).
The fact that the Throne of Allāh is above Al-Firdaws—serving as its roof—clearly indicates its greatness. It is the loftiest, most honored, and most radiant part of Jannah. It also signifies that its inhabitants are the closest to Allāh. Allah says: “And those foremost [(in Islāmic Faith of Monotheism and in performing righteous deeds) in the life of this world on their first call to embrace Islām] will be foremost (in Paradise). These will be those nearest to Allāh. In the Gardens of Delight (Paradise).” [Surah Al-Waqi’ah (56): 10-12)]
It has also been reported that Jannah consists of one hundred levels. However, this specific number appears to be designated for a particular group—the Mujāhidūn. Abū Hurayrah reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Verily, in Paradise are one hundred levels which Allāh has reserved for those who strive in Jihād in His way...” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 2790]
Beyond the hundred levels (for the Mujāhidūn), there are other levels and ranks prepared for the companions of the Qur'ān. A person’s status or position in Jannah can rise based on their relationship with the Qur'ān—their memorisation, consistent recitation, and living by its teachings.
‘Abdullāh Ibn ‘Amr reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “It will be said to the companion of the Qur'ān: Recite and ascend as you recited in the world! Verily, your rank is determined by the last verse you recite.” [Sunan At-Tirmidhī 2914] In another narration, Abū Sa’īd al-Khudri reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “It will be said to the companion of the Qur'ān when he enters Paradise: Recite and ascend! Thus, he will recite and ascend one level for each verse until he recites the last one with him.” [Sunan Ibn Mājah 3780]
From this, we understand that the number of verses of the Qur’ān is equal to the number of levels of Paradise. Also, the highest ranks will be granted to those who devoted themselves completely to the Qur'ān. One’s final station will correspond to the extent of their recitation—stopping at the last verse they had preserved and lived by. In this sense, the number of levels a person ascends reflects the depth of their attachment to the Qur’ān.
Dear brethren, the path before us is great and requires sincere effort. I beseech Allāh to make it easy for us, accept our deeds, and grant us all entry into Jannah Al-Firdaws. Aameen
