SISTERS' BREAKFAST
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Dear Muslim Sister,
A wise proverb says:
"Not everyone who smiles at you is your friend, and not everyone who frowns at you is your enemy."
There are people who may appear to be your friends while secretly harbouring jealousy or ill intentions toward you. Some eagerly wait for you to complain about your husband so they can use your words against you. And when they find nothing to hold against him, they may resort to rumours, suspicion, and slander in an attempt to create problems in your marriage.
Why do they do this?
Sometimes it is jealousy. Sometimes it is resentment. And sometimes, unfortunately, a person may have selfish motives and secretly wish to see another person's marriage fall apart.
Slaves of Allah!
Allah (SWT) warns us:
"And do not spy or backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? You would detest it."
📚 Qur'an 49:12
Yet some people make themselves investigators of other people's marriages. They ask seemingly innocent questions such as:
"How is your husband treating you?"
"Does he give you enough money?"
"Are you really happy with him?"
If you give them nothing to work with, they may begin making assumptions or even spreading falsehoods.
If your husband travels frequently, they may say:
"Your husband is always travelling. How can you cope with that?"
If he does not earn much, they may say:
"How do you survive on such little money? Why did you marry him?"
They may even attack his appearance:
"With your beauty, how did you end up marrying such a short or unattractive man? How did your parents allow it?"
These words may sound like concern, but sometimes they are nothing more than seeds of dissatisfaction being planted in your heart.
WHY DO SOME PEOPLE DO THIS?
1. JEALOUSY
Some people find it difficult to see another person enjoying peace and happiness. Instead of making du'a for that person's blessings, they become disturbed by them.
2. BAD INTENTIONS
Some people deliberately plant suspicion in another person's heart, hoping that constant doubt will eventually create conflict between husband and wife.
3. MISERY LOVES COMPANY
A person who is unhappy in their own marriage may sometimes try to convince others that marriage itself is miserable. Instead of encouraging reconciliation and patience, they encourage resentment and separation.
THE DESTRUCTIVE POWER OF GOSSIP
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) said:
"The talebearer will not enter Paradise."
📚 Sahih al-Bukhari & Sahih Muslim
Dear sister, be careful about whom you allow into the private affairs of your marriage.
Not every person who asks about your husband needs to know the details of your home. Not every person who listens to your complaints genuinely wants to help you. And not every piece of advice deserves to be followed.
At the same time, this does not mean that a woman should remain silent when she is genuinely being abused, oppressed, or seriously harmed. Seeking help from a trustworthy person, qualified counsellor, knowledgeable scholar, or appropriate authority can be necessary and praiseworthy.
But do not turn every disagreement in your marriage into public information.
FINAL ADVICE
Dear sister, protect the privacy of your home.
Do not allow the careless words of outsiders to create hatred between you and your husband. Do not allow jealousy, gossip, or suspicion to destroy what Allah has blessed you with.
When there is a genuine problem, seek sincere and trustworthy counsel—not from people who enjoy seeing marriages fall apart, but from those who sincerely fear Allah and want reconciliation.
Protect your home.
Protect your dignity.
Protect your marriage.
And above all, place your trust in Allah (SWT).
May Allah protect our marriages from jealousy, gossip, slander, suspicion, evil eyes, and every form of harm. May He place sakinah, love, mercy, patience, and understanding between husbands and wives.
Ameen, Ya Hayyu Ya Qayyum.
