ONE BEST CHOICE
[[— Episode 2 —]]
بِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ
“The woman with a past is often the woman with a better future.”
Listen, brother.
Everything that happens in this world occurs by the decree of Allah (SWT). Nothing escapes His knowledge or His wisdom.
Whether marriage comes sooner or later, whether it is easy or difficult, whether it lasts a lifetime or eventually comes to an end—all of it occurs within the decree of Allah (SWT).
So when a marriage ends in divorce, it did not surprise Allah (SWT). It was already within His knowledge and decree, even though it may surprise and hurt human beings.
Let us be honest.
A divorced woman is not automatically a bad woman. In many cases, divorce happens because two people were unable to make their marriage work. Sometimes the husband was at fault. Sometimes the wife was at fault. Sometimes both made mistakes. Sometimes circumstances beyond their control contributed to the breakdown.
That is life. That is part of being human.
Mistakes Are the Best Teacher
Every relationship—whether successful or unsuccessful—can teach us valuable lessons.
A previously married woman may have had the opportunity to reflect on her experiences, recognise her mistakes, understand what she needs in a marriage, and learn how to handle challenges more wisely.
That experience can become a source of maturity and wisdom.
My people, listen.
The divorced woman you see today may be a much better wife than someone who has never been married.
What matters most is not simply whether she has been married before. What matters is her faith, character, manners, wisdom and willingness to build a healthy marriage.
And this is not contrary to the Sunnah.
The Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ) married women who had previously been married, including widows and divorcees. Many of his Companions also married women who had been previously married.
Therefore, there is no Islamic basis for treating a divorced or widowed woman as though she is somehow inferior to a woman who has never married.
The most important qualities to look for in a wife are not merely her marital history, beauty or wealth, but her dīn and character.
The Prophet (ﷺ) said:
“A woman is married for four things: her wealth, her family status, her beauty and her religion. So marry the religious one.”
📚 Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim
So, if a widow or divorced woman possesses strong faith, good character and sound manners, she may be an excellent choice for marriage.
In fact, a previously married woman can be among the best potential wives a man could choose.
So do not allow society's shallow judgments to prevent you from recognising a potential blessing.
A woman's past does not necessarily define her future.
Her faith, character, wisdom and present conduct are what deserve your attention.
A previously married woman who loves Allah (SWT), possesses good manners and sincerely wants to build a righteous home may be a precious jewel—one whose life experiences have refined her rather than destroyed her.
So, brother, look beyond the label. Look at the woman herself.
Now, over to the sisters preparing for another chance—or already in one.
My dear sister,
The key to a successful and fruitful second marriage is not expecting perfection. It is learning from the past, communicating honestly, forgiving appropriately, fulfilling your responsibilities and remaining committed to doing what is right.
Every marriage will have its difficult moments. There will be ease and hardship, happiness and disagreements, calm days and challenging days.
A second marriage is not guaranteed to be perfect simply because it is a second chance.
But it can be better when both spouses enter it with taqwā, maturity, patience, wisdom and a sincere desire to please Allah (SWT).
So, do not allow the pain of your past to convince you that your future is already written in sadness.
Allah can replace hardship with ease, loss with something better, and a painful chapter with a beautiful new beginning.
