THE CONCEPT OF IṢLĀḤ (RECONCILIATION) IN ISLĀM: THE NEGLECTED DUTY (CONTINUED)
Bismillāh.
Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall says in Sūrah An-Nisā’, verse 114:
Meaning:
"There is no good in much of their private conversations, except for those encouraging charity, kindness, or reconciliation between people." (Qur’an 4:114).
Reflect on this beautiful teaching.
When people gather privately, their conversations can sometimes become filled with gossip, backbiting, accusations, and plans to hurt one another. However, Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall highlights noble deeds that bring goodness, including charity, kindness, and making peace between people.
Perhaps you make a phone call. Perhaps you visit those who are at odds with one another. Perhaps you patiently listen to both sides, correct a misunderstanding, or encourage someone to apologise.
You may not receive a certificate. Nobody may announce your achievement in the mosque. You may never receive public recognition. But when you act sincerely for the sake of Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall, your efforts are never insignificant.
The Prophet Muḥammad (Ṣallallāhu ‘Alayhi wa Sallam) demonstrated the importance of this noble responsibility. Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, Hadith 2690, reports that he went with some of his Companions to help settle a dispute between members of Banū ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf.
This teaches us that peacemaking is a noble responsibility, not an embarrassing task. Do not consider yourself too important to reconcile people. The work of restoring peace between hearts is itself an honour.
To be continued tomorrow, In Shā’ Allāh.
May Allāh ‘Azza wa Jall make us among those who bring hearts together, restore broken relationships, and earn His pleasure through sincere acts of reconciliation.
Āmīn.
