*The Blessings You Forgot.*
Bismillah, No one on the face of this earth has ever received everything they wanted.
Every person carries the pain of something that did not work out. Someone wished to marry but never did. Someone married but was not blessed with children. Someone dreamed of a certain career, home, car, or opportunity, but it never happened.
That disappointment can remain in the heart for years. But you must know that life is far greater than the one thing you did not receive.
You did not get married. You could not have children. You did not get the job or buy the car you dreamed of. But did the world come to an end? Did every blessing in your life suddenly disappear?
Has Allah not given you countless blessings that others have been deprived of?
Sometimes, a person thinks so much about what they lack that sadness fills their heart. They may begin to wonder, “Why did Allah give this to others but not to me?”
Stop and think for a moment. Before feeling upset about the one thing Allah did not give you, look carefully at everything He has already given you.
Visit a hospital and look at those unable to walk, leave their beds, or even breathe without assistance. Some of them would give everything they own simply to have what you have.
You walk on your own feet. You breathe without a machine. You eat, sleep, leave your home, and return whenever you wish. While you are thinking about what is missing, someone else is begging Allah for the blessings you barely notice.
Look at the labourers standing beneath the blazing sun, carrying heavy loads and waiting all day for a small amount of money. They exhaust their bodies and endure hardship simply to provide for themselves and their families.
Why do we always look at those who have more, but rarely look at those who have less? Why do we count what is missing while ignoring what is present? Why does one unfulfilled wish make us forget a lifetime of mercy and blessings?
Think good of your Lord, and be honest with yourself.
You may not have received everything you wanted, but you have blessings that others spend their nights begging Allah for.
Do not allow one missing blessing to blind you to the many blessings surrounding you. Perhaps what you wanted was not good for you. Perhaps Allah protected you by withholding it. Perhaps your patience is being saved as a reward for the day you will need it most.
Peace does not come from having everything. It comes from recognising Allah’s blessings, trusting His wisdom, and being content with what He has decreed.
The Prophet ﷺ taught us:
انْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ أَسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْ، وَلَا تَنْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ فَوْقَكُمْ، فَهُوَ أَجْدَرُ أَنْ لَا تَزْدَرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ
*_“Look at those who have less than you, and do not look at those who have more, for this will help you not to belittle Allah’s blessings upon you.”_* (Sahih Muslim: 2963).
