*TURNING BACK TO ALLAH ﷻ*

*A Poem of Repentance*

Listen to this beautiful poem:
*إلهي لا تعذبني*
_Oh my Lord! Don’t punish me,_
*فإني مقر بالذي قد كان مني*
_For Indeed I am confessing to that which I have done,_
*فما لي حيلة إلا رجائي*
_And there is no other way out except my hope (in you)_
*وعفوك إن عفوت وحسن ظني*
_And your forgiveness if you choose to forgive me and in my thinking well of you_
*فكم من زلة لي في البرايا*
_Oh! How much mistakes I have in my book of deeds,_
*وأنت عليّ ذو فضل ومنّ*
_Whilst you are one who sends blessings and bounties upon me_
*إذا فكرت في قدمي عليها*
_When I think about how I went forward in them,_
*عضضت أناملي وقرعت سني*
_I bite on my nails and chatter my teeth,_
*يظن الناس بي خيرا وإني*
_The people think of me as good whilst I am_
*لشر الناس إن لم تعف عني*
_The most evil of people if you don’t forgive me_
*أجن بزهرة الدنيا جنونا*
_I lost my mind completely over the beauty of the Dunya_
*وأفني العمر فيها بالتمني*
_And I live out life in it with vain hopes_
*ولو أني صدقت الزهد فيها*
_And if only I had done Zuhd properly in it_
*قلبت لأهلها ظهر المجنّ*
_I would have shown it’s people the back of the shield (I would have been averse to them)_

What a beautiful poem!

Seek forgiveness and turn to your Lord.
*فَفِرُّوا إِلَى اللَّهِ ۖ*
_Flee to Allah_
[51:50]
_
Flee to the one who would accept you, even after filling the heavens and earth with sins.
Flee to the only one able to forgive you.
_
Imam Bukhari رحمه الله brings an Athar in his Adab Al Mufrad from Abu Bakr رضي الله عنه that when he was praised he would say,
*اللهم اجعلني خيراً مما يظنون واغفرلي ما لا يعلمون ولا تؤاخذني بما يقولون فإنك تعلم وهم لايعلمون*
_Oh Allah make me better than what they think of me and forgive me for what they don’t know about me, and don’t take me to account for what they say about me, for indeed you know all and they don’t know!_
