 The importance of the Hadith and why we need the hadith. 

Alhamdulillah, the word hadith came from hadatha meaning speak or sayings. 

It is the words of the prophet peace be upon him which he used to answer to question of peoples. 

It can also mean it actions and silent approval when he sees something and keeps quiet. 

This is what is meant by the hadith 

And sunnah means to practice or perform the teachings of the hadith 

Allah says in Quran, 

And verily we have an excellent example in the life of the messenger for anyone who believes in Allah and the last day.. 

Surah Ahzab 33;21.

The hadith why we need it to practice the religion with ease and not to be different in practice islam through innovations. 

If the hadith do not explain the Quran and what is required for us to practice and know better of it, then every one will be astray. 

As we know from this hadith, 

Narrated `Adi bin Hatim:

When the above verses were revealed: 'Until the white thread appears to you, distinct from the black thread,' I tooktwo (hair) strings, one black and the other white, and kept them under my pillow and went on looking at them throughout the night but could not make anything out of it. So, the next morning I went to Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) and told him the whole story. He explained to me, "That verse means the darkness of the night and the whiteness of the dawn."

Sahih al-Bukhari 1916.

From this ayah, it means even some sahaba still could not understand the verse of the Quran unless the prophet explained to them. 

That is the purpose of hadith to know what actually Allah wants from us and to practice the ibadah well
