FAJR REMINDER: ACCEPTANCE IS THE SIXTH
By: Umm Affān
Muḥarram 8, 1448 (23-June-2026)
The sixth condition of Lā ilāha ill-Allāh (none is worthy of worship except Allāh) is Qabūl (Acceptance). After acquiring ‘Ilm (Knowledge) and Yaqīn (Certainty) regarding Lā ilāha ill-Allāh, a believer must also demonstrate complete and unconditional acceptance of what it entails.
This acceptance is manifested both in the heart and upon the tongue, and it stands in direct opposition to rejection. Allāh (ﷻ) says: “Truly, when it was said to them: Lā ilāha ill-Allāh (none has the right to be worshipped but Allāh), they puffed themselves up with pride (i.e. denied it). And (they) said: Are we going to abandon our ‘ālihah (gods) for the sake of a mad poet?” [Sūrah Aṣ-Ṣāffāt (37): 35-36] These verses clearly demonstrate that the disbelievers' arrogance prevented them from accepting Lā ilāha ill-Allāh. Rather than submitting to the declaration's negation and affirmation, they met it with pride and denial.
Thus, their rejection of the truth and of the Messenger who conveyed it made them deserving of Allāh's Punishment. In contrast, Allāh promises victory and support for those who sincerely accept the message brought by His Messengers. He (ﷻ) says: “And indeed We did send Messengers before you (O Muḥammad) to their peoples. They came to them with clear proofs, then, We took vengeance on those who committed crimes (disbelief, setting partners in worship with Allāh, sins, etc.), and (as for) the believers it was incumbent upon Us to help (them).” [Sūrah Ar-Room (30): 47]
An important aspect of this sixth condition is that Lā ilāha ill-Allāh must be accepted in its entirety. Unfortunately, this is something many people overlook today. Some hesitate to speak about certain teachings of Islām because they conflict with prevailing desires or societal pressures. Others attempt to reinterpret the meanings of Qur'ān verses so they conform to personal opinions and preferences. When a verse does not align with what they desire, they either distort its meaning or avoid referring to it altogether.
Allāh condemned the Children of Israel for accepting only those parts of the Scripture that suited them while rejecting the rest. He says: “…Then do you believe in a part of the Scripture and reject the rest? Then what is the recompense of those who do so among you, except disgrace in the life of this world, and on the Day of Resurrection they shall be consigned to the most grievous torment. And Allah is not unaware of what you do.” [Sūrah Al-Baqarah (2): 85]
Sadly, a similar attitude can be found among some Muslims today who reject the authority of the authentic Ḥadīth and claim that the Qur'ān alone should be taken as the source of religious rulings.
Dear brethren! The truth must be accepted wholeheartedly and in its entirety. We must not mix it with falsehood, nor should we reject any part of what Allāh and His Messenger have conveyed.
I beseech Allāh (ﷻ) to grant us sincerity, complete acceptance of His Religion, and steadfastness upon the truth. Aameen.
