[[-- Episode 6 --]]------------------
بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم
Our parents (living or dead) have done for us what we can never be able to pay them back. Yes. For many of us who have children can testify to this. The sleepless night we caused them, the sacrifices they made to ensuring that we are who we are today.
How many of us have done this for our Parents?
(1) Many children today can afford jacking out 100K to funding the digging of a local well for communities in desperate need of water and say - "Ya Allah! I ask that the rewards of this ongoing charity should go to my parents".
(2) Some children today can even afford funding the sinking of borehole for communities in desperate need of water and say - "Ya Allah! I ask that the rewards of this ongoing charity should go to my parents".
Are we actually fair to our parents? Or we think the Du'a we make for them is okay and they don't need more?
Maybe we don't want Allah (swt) to make our children do the same for us!
It's established in the hadith that "The merciful will be shown mercy by the Most Merciful. Be merciful to those on the earth, and you will be shown mercy by Who is in the heavens."📚(Sunan At-Tirmidhi,authenticated by Al-Albani)
This reminds me,
During a battle, the Muslims captured a man from the opposing army. The Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) assigned this prisoner to a companion named Abu Jahm ibn Hudhayfah to be kept safe until his fate was decided.
Abu Jahm was not a wealthy man. He lived a simple life. The prisoner was tied to a post in Abu Jahm's modest home.
Every day, when mealtime came, Abu Jahm would look at the small portion of food he had—often just a few dates or a piece of bread. He would then untie the prisoner and give him the entire portion, going hungry himself. This happened for several days.
The prisoner, who was an enemy combatant just days before, was deeply moved. He couldn't understand why his captor would show him such selfless kindness.
Eventually, the Prophet (pbuh) received a ransom for the prisoner and ordered Abu Jahm to bring him. When Abu Jahm arrived with the prisoner, the man did something unexpected.
He turned to the Prophet (pbuh) and said, "O Muhammad, I have seen something from this man that I have never seen from any other people. Every day he would give me his food and go hungry. I am a free man from a noble tribe, and I wish to remain with this man and accept Islam."
The prisoner embraced Islam on the spot, motivated solely by the overwhelming goodness and self-sacrifice he experienced at the hands of Abu Jahm.
My People,
There might be times our parents slept with empty stomach just because there wasn't enough to go round😢. Yes. Just like Abu Jahm.
Muslim Faithful,
Building a water well on behalf of a deceased loved one is an excellent way to gain rewards for those who have passed away. Islamically, if you build a well in someone’s name, the person will get the rewards for all the sustainability the well creates for the community.
On the authority of Sa‘d bin ’Ubadah (r.a) that he said, ‘O Messenger of Allah! Umm (mother of) Sa‘d has died, so which charity is best?’ He [pbuh] replied, “Water (is best).” He said, ‘So he [r.a] dug a well and said, “This (well) is for Umm Sa‘d”’. 📚(Abu Dawud)
