FAJR REMINDER: BETWEEN ONE PRAYER AND THE NEXT

Muḥarram 11, 1448 (26-June-2026)
Death has been decreed for every soul, and only Allāh knows which Ṣalāh will be the last a servant performs before returning to Him. Without a doubt, one of the five daily Ṣalawāt will be your final prayer. Your death will come between one prayer and the next. Likewise, it will certainly occur between one Jumu'ah and the next.
What about you? Which prayer will be your last? None of us knows. So, how should we prepare for death when we are certain that it will arrive between one of two prayers?
Dear brethren! One of the finest ways to prepare is to perform each prayer with a sincere intention and eagerness to perform the next one. Abū Umāmah reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “Prayer followed by another prayer, without any vain talk in between, is written in the heavenly record.” (83:18) [Sunan Abī Dāwūd 1288]
Reflect on this for a moment. You pray Fajr with the intention of performing Ẓuhr, but before that next prayer arrives, the angel of death comes to take your soul. You would meet Allāh while carrying the intention of worshipping Him again. What a beautiful state in which to leave this world. Ibn Abbās reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “...Whoever intends to perform a good deed but does not do it, Allāh will record it as a complete good deed...” [Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 6491, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 131]
Furthermore, Abū Hurayrah reported: The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said, “Shall I not tell you of a deed by which Allāh expiates your sins and raises your status?” They said, “Of course, O Messenger of Allāh.” The Prophet said, “Thorough ablution despite difficulty, taking many steps to the mosque, and waiting for one prayer after another. That is like guarding the frontier.” [Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 251] The one who eagerly awaits the next prayer is compared to a person engaged in Ribāṭ—guarding the frontiers to protect the Muslim community from enemy attack. Such a responsibility demands discipline, patience, vigilance, and sacrifice.
Therefore, let us cultivate the habit of performing every prayer with a firm resolve to perform the next. We should live in a constant state of readiness to meet our Lord through sincere worship and obedience.
I beseech Allāh (ﷻ) to assist us in doing so, grant us steadfastness upon His Religion, and bless us with a good ending. Aameen.
