*_DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER_*
Yaum As-sabt | 9th day of Rabee-ul Awwal, 1448 AH | Saturday, 22nd August, 2026. *_TAFSEER OF SURATUL-FAATIHAH_*. BismilLah.
We recite this suurah in every single salaat but do we really understand the spiritual Meanings of the verses? Let's begin to understand this most important act in our salaat.
Suratul-Faatihah (سُورَةُ الْفَاتِحَةِ) is the opening chapter of the Qur’an and one of the greatest suurahs in Islam. It contains only seven verses, yet it summarizes the central message of the entire Qur’an: who ALLAH Azzawajal is, how we should worship HIM, our relationship with HIM, the Hereafter, and our constant need for HIS Guidance. Sheikh Ibn Kathir may ALLAH Azzawajal be pleased with him highlights these themes in his commentary on the suurah.
The Prophet ﷺ also described it as Umm al-Qur’an (Mother of the Qur’an) and the seven oft-repeated verses.
The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ was calling people away from shirk (associating partners with ALLAH) and towards:
Tawheed: Worshiping ALLAH Azzawajal alone. Belief in the Day of Judgement. Sincere worship.
Dependence upon ALLAH Azzawajal. Righteous living.
Following divine guidance etc.
Suratul-Faatihah beautifully gathers all these fundamental beliefs into a short prayer. It is therefore almost as if ALLAH Azzawajal teaches the believer: Know ME, Praise ME, Worship ME, Depend upon ME, remember the Hereafter, and ask ME to guide you. This is why Faatihah is not merely a surah that we recite mechanically in salah. It is a conversation between the servant and his LORD.
The Prophet ﷺ conveyed that ALLAH Azzawajal said that the prayer is divided between HIM and HIS servant, and when the servant praises ALLAH, ALLAH responds to that praise. That should completely change the way we recite Faatihah.
To be continued tomorrow in Shaa ALLAH. *_May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences_*. Aameen.
