THE FRUITS OF DUTIFULNESS TO PARENTS

FAJR REMINDER: THE FRUITS OF DUTIFULNESS TO PARENTS

By: Umm Affān

Ṣafar 29, 1448 (13-August-2026)

Undoubtedly, goodness, kindness, and dutifulness to one's parents are among the most important and beneficial deeds a Muslim can undertake. They carry immense rewards and blessings, both in this world and in the Hereafter. Among their many benefits are the following:

1. It Brings Allāh's Pleasure

The Messenger of Allāh (ﷺ) said: “The Pleasure of the Lord is in the pleasure of the parent, and the Anger of the Lord is in the anger of the parent.” [Jāmi‘ At-Tirmidhī, 1899] Ka‘b al-Aḥbār related that Luqmān said to his son: “My son, whoever pleases his parents has pleased the Most Merciful, and whoever angers them has angered the Most Merciful…” [al-Birr wa Aṣ-Ṣilah v. 1, p. 32] -Ṣiddīq

The Pleasure of Allāh is the greatest goal a Muslim can pursue, for whoever earns His Pleasure has attained true success in this life and the Hereafter. One of the greatest ways to seek that Pleasure is through dutifulness to one's parents. Allāh has repeatedly mentioned kindness to parents alongside the command to worship Him alone, underscoring the immense status of this obligation. Serving them, speaking gently to them, caring for their needs, and treating them with patience and respect are not merely expressions of family affection; they are acts of worship through which a Muslim can seek the Pleasure and Reward of Allāh.

2. It Leads to a Good and Blessed Life

Mu'ādh reported: The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Bliss belongs to someone who is dutiful towards his parents. Allāh Almighty will prolong his life.” [Al-Adab Al-Mufrad 22]

Dutifulness to one's parents is among the deeds that bring immense blessing and goodness to a person's life. The Prophet (ﷺ) described the one who is dutiful to his parents as being blessed and mentioned that Allāh will prolong his life. This reminds us that caring for and honouring our parents is not a burden devoid of reward; rather, it is a deed through which a person can attain blessing and goodness from Allāh.

3. It Can Lead to a Happy Ending

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “I entered Paradise and heard within it a recitation. I said: “Who is this?” They said, “Ḥārithah Ibn al-Nu’mān.” Such is dutifulness, such is dutifulness,  and he (Ḥārithah) was the most dutiful of people toward his mother.” [Al-Albānī in Aṣ-Ṣaḥīḥah 913]

The story of Ḥārithah Ibn an-Nu‘mān (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) is a powerful reminder of the lofty status of dutifulness to one's parents. The Prophet (ﷺ) heard his recitation in Paradise and was informed that Ḥārithah was among the most dutiful of people towards his mother. His example demonstrates that sincere kindness and dutifulness to one's mother are not small or ordinary deeds; rather, they can become a means of attaining an honoured position in Paradise. What a beautiful end for one whose life was marked by dutifulness!

4. Dutifulness Begets Dutifulness

One of the beautiful consequences of being dutiful to one's parents is that it can become a means of receiving similar dutifulness from one's own children. Goodness is often passed from one generation to another. When children grow up witnessing their parents honouring and caring for their grandparents, they learn by example how parents should be treated. Thus, your dutifulness today may become a beautiful legacy that your children carry forward tomorrow. The kindness you show to your parents may teach your children, without words, how they should treat you when you grow old.

Dear brethren, let us remember that serving, honouring, and caring for our parents is not merely a family obligation; it is an act of worship that carries immense reward. Therefore, we should strive to serve them with patience, humility, gentleness, and sincere love, seeking nothing but the Pleasure of Allāh.

I beseech Allāh (ﷻ) to enable us to honour our parents appropriately and to allow us to benefit immensely from our dutifulness towards them. Āmīn.

HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER. Yaum Al-Khamis, 22nd day of Jumaadal Uula 1447AH, Thursday, 13th November, 2025.  *_HELPING OTHERS WITH INTENTION FOR ALLAH'S HELP IN RETURN_*. BismilLah.  When we help our brothers and sisters in Islam, in reality, we are helping ourselves. The Messenger of ALLAH (S.A.W) said: He who relieves the hardship of a believer in this world, ALLAH Azzawajallah will relieve his hardship on the Day of Judgment. He who makes easy what is difficult, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will make it easy for him in the world and the hereafter. He who conceals the faults of a Muslim, ALLAH ALLAH Azzawajallah will conceal his faults in this ALLAH Azzawajallah world and the Hereafter, for ALLAH helps the servant as long as he helps his brother. AlhamdulilLah.  With this I hope with immediate effect we will all strive to help each other in any possible way such as making dua for each other, supporting our relatives and those in need in ou...

NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH

DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDERS. Yawm Arba'a. 29th day of Shaw'waal, 1445AH (Wednesday 8th May 2024). *_NOTHING HAPPENS WITHOUT THE PERMISSION OF ALLAH_*. BismilLah.  Even though feelings of Panic, stress/worries etc are part of life, they must not reduce our acts of worship or trust in ALLAH. The more a man turns to ALLAH and focuses on HIM, the more he will feel a sense of peace and comfort, to an extent that no one knows except ALLAH. Hence those who know ALLAH, are close to HIM and fear HIM are the happiest of people, to such an extent that one of them said, in a well-known expression: “If the kings and the sons of kings knew what joy we have, they would fight us for it with the sword.” This is also what is expressed in the Qur’an, as ALLAH says: “Whoever works righteousness, whether male or female, while he (or she) is a true believer (of Islamic Monotheism) verily, to him ALLAH will give a good life (in this world with respect, contentment and lawful provision), and ALLAH will ...

BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD

*BEST TIME FOR TAHAJJUD* It is best to delay this prayer to the last third portion of the night. Abu Hurairah reports that the Messenger of Allah said: "Our Lord descends to the lowest heaven during the last third of the night, inquiring: 'Who will call on Me so that I may respond to him? Who is asking something of Me so I may give it to him? Who is asking for My forgiveness so I may forgive him?"' This is related by the group. 'Amr ibn Abasah reports that he heard the Prophet say: "The closest that a slave comes to his Lord is during the middle of the latter portion of the night. If you can be among those who remember Allah, the Exalted One, at that time then do so." This is related by al-Hakim who grades it sahih according to Muslim's standards, and at-Tirmizhi calls it hasan sahih. AnNasa'i and Ibn Khuzaimah also recorded it. Abu Muslim asked Abu Zharr: "Which late-night prayer is the best?" He said: "I asked the Messenger of A...
