A GIFT FOR YOU
[Episode 12]

بِسْمِ اللهِ الرَّحْمٰنِ الرَّحِيْمِ

Allah (SWT) has created the future and knows intimately what it holds, just as He knows our past and present. Nothing is hidden from His knowledge. Yet, Allah has given us the ability to make choices and has commanded us to choose righteousness and avoid sin.

We do not know what the future holds, and this uncertainty encourages us to strive, make good choices, repent from our mistakes, and do righteous deeds. What matters is that we sincerely strive to obey Allah.

Allah (SWT) says:

“Whoever does righteousness, whether male or female, while he is a true believer — We will surely cause him to live a good life, and We will surely give them their reward according to the best of what they used to do.”

NOW, LISTEN CAREFULLY…

There is a serious category of wrongdoing that involves the rights of other people.

Allah (SWT) is the Most Forgiving, but when we wrong another person, repentance involves more than simply asking Allah for forgiveness. Where another person's rights have been violated, we must also seek to put things right—such as returning what was taken, correcting the harm, or seeking the person's forgiveness when appropriate.

MY PEOPLE, LISTEN!

You see your tongue? Hmm… Never allow it to push you towards the Fire.

BACKBITING — GHEEBAH

Backbiting is saying something about your Muslim brother or sister in their absence that they would dislike—even if what you say is true.

SLANDER — BUHTĀN

Slander is attributing something false to another person or saying something about them that is untrue. This is a grave form of wrongdoing.

GOSSIP AND TALE-BEARING

Spreading people's private matters, words, or stories in a way that causes hatred, conflict, humiliation, or harm is also extremely dangerous.

So, my brothers and sisters, guard your tongues!

Think of your good deeds as a beautiful garden.

Every prayer.
Every fast.
Every act of charity.
Every good deed.

They are like beautiful trees growing in that garden.

But careless words can destroy what you have worked so hard to build.

One backbiting statement.
One false accusation.
One piece of harmful gossip.

Do not underestimate the danger of your tongue.

ON THE DAY OF JUDGMENT…

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ warned us about a person who comes with many good deeds but has wronged other people.

The Prophet ﷺ described the “bankrupt person” as someone who comes on the Day of Resurrection with prayers, fasting and charity, but has insulted people, falsely accused them, consumed their wealth, shed their blood, or struck them.

His good deeds will be given to those whom he wronged. If his good deeds are exhausted before their rights are settled, some of their sins will be placed upon him.

📚 Sahih Muslim 2581

This is why we must never treat words as insignificant.

A few seconds of careless speech can create consequences that last far beyond those few seconds.

The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

“Do you know what backbiting is?”

They said, “Allah and His Messenger know best.”

He ﷺ said:

“It is to say something about your brother that he dislikes.”

Someone asked, “What if what I say about my brother is true?”

He ﷺ replied:

“If what you say about him is true, you have backbitten him; and if it is not true, you have slandered him.”

📚 Sahih Muslim 2589

SO, GUARD YOUR TONGUE.

Before you speak about someone, ask yourself:

Would I say this if they were standing right in front of me?

If the answer is no, then silence may be safer.

May Allah (SWT) purify our hearts, forgive our sins, protect our tongues from backbiting, slander and harmful speech, and help us to fulfil the rights of His servants.
