WHY ARE WE FORGETTING?

بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم

My dear brother. My dear sister.

Allah ﷻ Himself sends blessings upon the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, and His angels do the same. This is mentioned clearly in the Qur’an.

Allah ﷻ says:

“Indeed, Allah and His angels send blessings upon the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings upon him and greet him with peace.”

📖 Qur’an 33:56

Think about that.

Allah ﷻ does it. The angels do it. And we, as believers, are commanded to do it too.

So why are we forgetting?

Send abundant ṣalawāt upon the Prophet ﷺ every day, and increase them especially on Fridays.

This reminds me of a beautiful conversation between Ubayy ibn Kaʿb رضي الله عنه and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Ubayy رضي الله عنه asked:

“O Messenger of Allah, how much of my supplication should I devote to sending blessings upon you?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“As much as you wish.”

Ubayy رضي الله عنه asked:

“A quarter?”

He ﷺ said:

“As much as you wish. But if you increase it, that is better for you.”

He asked:

“Half?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“As much as you wish. But if you increase it, that is better for you.”

He asked:

“Two-thirds?”

Again, the Prophet ﷺ said:

“As much as you wish. But if you increase it, that is better for you.”

Then Ubayy رضي الله عنه said:

“Shall I make all of my supplication for you?”

The Prophet ﷺ replied:

“Then your worries will be taken care of and your sins will be forgiven.”

📚 Jamiʿ at-Tirmidhi 2457 — Imam al-Tirmidhi graded it hasan sahih.

WHAT DOES THIS MEAN FOR US?

Ubayy رضي الله عنه was asking how much of the time he normally spent making supplication for himself should be devoted to sending ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ.

The lesson is not that we should abandon every other duʿāh. Rather, it shows us the tremendous virtue of frequently sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ.

The Prophet ﷺ mentioned two great benefits:

1️⃣ Your worries will be taken care of.

2️⃣ Your sins will be forgiven.

So, my dear brother and sister, do not underestimate ṣalāh upon the Prophet ﷺ.

You do not need to be a scholar to begin.

Simply say:

اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ عَلَى نَبِيِّنَا مُحَمَّدٍ

Allahumma ṣalli wa sallim ʿalā Nabiyyinā Muhammad.

“O Allah, send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad.”

Say it often.

Say it sincerely.

And increase it on Friday.

May Allah ﷻ make our tongues moist with ṣalāh upon His beloved Messenger ﷺ, forgive our sins, remove our worries, and grant us sincere love for the Prophet ﷺ.
