*_DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER_*
Yaumul ahad | 2nd day of Rabee-uthaani, 1448 AH | Sunday, 13th September, 2026. *_THE DANGER OF LACK OF APPRECIATION AMONG MUSLIM COUPLES_*. BismilLahir Rahmanir Raheem
Marriage in Islam is not merely about providing money, cooking food, raising children or fulfilling physical responsibilities. It is also about recognising, appreciating and valuing the sacrifices of your spouse.
A husband may work long hours to provide for his family, yet never hear, “Jazaakallaahu khayran.”
A wife may spend her entire day caring for the home and children, sacrificing her sleep, comfort and personal time, yet never hear, “I appreciate you.”
Over time, the heart can become tired. What lack of appreciation can cause
1. It creates resentment.
When someone repeatedly gives but feels unseen, they may eventually ask: “Why should I continue doing all this when nobody cares?”
2. When appreciation is absent, even a small mistake can overshadow years of sacrifice.
3. It opens the door to comparison.
A person may begin looking at other couples and thinking, “Other husbands appreciate their wives,” or “Other wives respect their husbands.” Comparison can become dangerous.
4. It weakens affection.
Love needs nurturing. Kind words, gratitude, affection and recognition keep the emotional connection alive.
5. It can make spouses emotionally distant. Two people can live under the same roof, raise children together and sleep in the same bedroom, yet become strangers emotionally.
The Prophet ﷺ warned strongly about the danger of ingratitude. He sallallahu alaihi wasallam mentioned among the inhabitants of Hell women who are ungrateful to their husbands, saying that even after experiencing much good from them, they could say, “I have never seen any good from you.”
This teaches us something important: one bad moment must not erase years of goodness.
And the lesson applies beyond wives. Husbands must also be careful not to become blind to the sacrifices of their wives.
*_May ALLAH Azzawajal place mawaddah (love), rahmah (mercy), shukr (gratitude), patience and understanding between our husbands and wives, and make our homes places of tranquillity and worship_*. Aameen.
