The sad and worrying reality of every Muslim home today is the danger of social media. It is quietly stealing our time, attention, affection and family relationships.
The phone has becomes closer to us than the people ALLAH Azzawajal placed beside us.
Social media itself is not necessarily haram. Like many tools, it can be used for good or evil. The danger begins when the phone controls us rather than us controlling it. A husband may sit beside his wife while his eyes are on his phone. A wife may be sitting beside her husband while scrolling endlessly. Parents may be physically present with their children but emotionally absent.
Children may spend hours watching content that their parents would never allow into the home through the front door. And slowly, the home becomes a house where everyone is together, but nobody is really together. Social media has damaged lots of families already. We must find ways and means to stop or limit the usage of phones at home.
ALLAH Azzawajal has entrusted us with our families.
ALLAH Azzawajal says:
“O you who believe! Protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stones…” Qur'an 66:6. This responsibility is much greater than providing food, clothing and accommodation. We must also protect our families from things that can damage their faith, modesty, character, marriages and hearts. If we knowingly allow our children unlimited access to harmful content, we cannot simply say, “They have their own phones; it is their responsibility.”
Parents have a responsibility to guide and supervise. To be continued tomorrow in Shaa ALLAH. *_May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences_*. Aameen.
