*_DAILY ISLAMIC REMINDER_*
Yaum Arba'a | 20th day of Rabee-ul Awwal, 1448 AH | Wednesday, 2nd September, 2026. *_UNDERSTANDING OF WHAT WE SAY IN OUR SALAAT CONTINUES_*. BismilLah.
Let's continue with our understanding of what we say during salaat. Zikir after first sujuud.
After the first sujuud, we sit briefly before going down for the second sujuud. In this sitting, the common Sunnah supplication is:
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي، رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي
Rabbighfirlii, Rabbighfirlii
“My Lord, forgive me. My Lord, forgive me.”
The Prophet ﷺ taught this supplication during the sitting between the two prostrations. It is authentically reported in the hadith collections, including Sunan Abī Dāwūd and Sunan al-Tirmidhī.
Why “forgive me”?
Think about the sequence:
Rukūʿ:
Subḥāna Rabbiyal-ʿAẓīm
“Glory is to my Lord, the Magnificent.”
Rising from rukūʿ:
Rabbana wa lakal-ḥamd
“Our Lord, to You belongs all praise.”
First sujūd:
Subḥāna Rabbiyal-Aʿlā
“Glory is to my Lord, the Most High.”
Sitting between the two sujūds:
Rabbighfirlii
“My Lord, forgive me.”
There is a beautiful progression here: we praise ALLAH Azzawajal, glorify HIM, then acknowledge our own weakness and ask for HIS forgiveness.
Practical lessons:
1. We all need ALLAH'S forgiveness. Even while worshipping ALLAH, we don't become proud of our worship. We recognise our shortcomings and ask HIM to forgive us.
2. Don't underestimate istighfār.
“Rabbighfirlii” is only two words, but it contains a huge request: Ya ALLAH, forgive my sins, shortcomings and mistakes.
The Prophet ﷺ taught tranquillity in the prayer. Sit properly, settle yourself, say Rabbighfirlii with understanding, then proceed to the second sujuud.
And there's an especially beautiful lesson: ALLAH brings us from standing, to rukuu, to sujuud, then allows us to sit and simply ask, “My Lord, forgive me.”
So next time you say it, don't let it be automatic. Say it as someone who genuinely needs ALLAH Azzawajal. To be continued tomorrow in Shaa ALLAH. *_May ALLAH Azzawajal keep guiding and protecting us from any satanic influences_*. Aameen.
