SEEKING ALLAH AZZA WAJAL’S SUPPORT THROUGH ACTS OF WORSHIP

Bismillāh.

Alhamdulillāh for granting us the opportunity to witness this blessed day of the week. May Allah (ﷻ) accept our deeds and make this Jumu‘ah a source of mercy and blessings for us all. Āmīn.

In the Qur’ān, Allah (ﷻ) says:

“And seek help through patience and prayer, and indeed, it is difficult except for the humbly submissive [to Allah].”

— Qur’ān 2:45

Imām Ibn Kathīr (رحمه الله) explained in his Tafsīr that Allah (ﷻ) commanded His servants to seek help through patience and prayer in order to attain the good of this life and the Hereafter.

What does patience mean in this verse?

Some of the scholars explained it as fasting. Imām Al-Qurṭubī (رحمه الله) and others mentioned that this is why Ramaḍān is described as the month of patience, as mentioned in the Ḥadīth literature.

Patience in this Āyah also includes restraining oneself from evil and remaining steadfast in obedience to Allah. This is why patience is mentioned alongside acts of worship, especially—and foremost—the Ṣalāh.

Imām Ibn Abī Ḥātim narrated that ‘Umar ibn Al-Khaṭṭāb (Raḍiyallāhu ‘Anhu) said:

“There are two types of patience: good patience when a calamity strikes, and better patience in avoiding the prohibitions of Allah.”

Therefore, let us take our Ṣalāh seriously—performing it on time, praying in congregation whenever possible, and increasing our voluntary prayers.

Let us also remain patient and steadfast in our acts of worship, while striving to stay away from sins and whatever displeases Allah.

When we seek Allah’s help through patience, prayer, obedience, and sincere repentance, we place ourselves in a position to receive His guidance, mercy, and support—and we hope for His reward in the Hereafter.
