-----------------بسم الله الرحمان الرجيم
The Prophet, Allah grant him blessings and peace, reportedly instructed us: "Heal your sick with sadaqah” 📚(Abu Dawud and others).
This reminds me,
Sa'd ibn 'Ubadah, a prominent and wealthy companion of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), once became seriously ill. The illness was severe and persistent. His mother was deeply distressed. While at his bedside, she made a vow (a Nadhr). She promised that if Allah cured her son, she would donate a large number of date-filled purses (a significant amount of wealth) specifically to provide water for the pilgrims in Mecca. By the grace of Allah (swt), Sa'd recovered from his illness. Sa'd mother, true to her word, took action. She had a large water cistern (a Saqiyah) built in Mecca and dedicated it to providing free, cool water to the thousands of pilgrims performing Hajj and Umrah, who often suffered from the intense desert heat. When the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) learned of this act of charity, he was immensely pleased. He (pbuh) made a specific supplication for her: "O Allah, grant mercy to the mother of Sa'd." This prayer from the Prophet himself is a testament to the immense value of providing water.
The above story is found in several classical hadith collections, including 📚Sunan an-Nasa'i and Sunan Abi Dawud.
Also,
Shaykh ‘Abdullah Siddiq Al-Ghumari (rahimahullah) has collected the different versions in his book entitled: Az-Zawajirul Muqalqalah li Munkirit Tadawy bis Sadaqah’
He has ruled that the words:
وَدَاوُوا مَرْضَاكُمْ بِالصَّدَقَةِ
(Treat your sick ones with sadaqah) is an established Hadith from Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) which are reported via several chains. Also see: Targhib, vol. 1, pg. 520
My People,
Suffering from illness can be a profound test of patience and faith. In Islam, giving Sadaqah - using water, food and money holds the potential to not only alleviate illness but also to earn the healing mercy of Allah (SWT). But there shouldn't be any condition like "giving the sadaqah so so and so food or money to so so and so person at so so and so time."
